Some businesses now say that no one can smoke cigarettes in any of their offices. Some governments have banned smoking in all public places. Do you agree or disagree? Give reasons.

I can't stand smoking. When I see someone smoking in a public place, I usualy tell him to stop, because it is against the law. What bothers me more, is that these people don't give a d@#n about the law - they just keep on smoking. What's worth - the government don't give a d#@n either... Not only smoking isn't healthy, it is also stinks and very not hygene. Most smokers tend to be very rude. For them, it is their right to smoke whereever they want, not remembering I have the right to breath. Keeping your right to harm your health is not OK, especialy when you harm others.

Second hand smoke is the smoke that others breath from someone smoking around them. Here is a link that explains more: http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E&b=39858

I agree..that people shouldn't smoke in public since there are many people that are allergic to the smoke..It's easier for a smoker to step out then for a non-smoker to rid oneself of the smoke that invades one's clothing etc. I am asthmatic and I hate going into restuarants only to have to walk back out because people are smoking and I can't breathe well in it.;)+

I don't have a problem if a company or business wants to say there is no smoking in the building. That is their option. I just don't think the government should say that it shouldn't be in any. I think a business or a company should have the right to say they do want to have a smoking area or what have you. Again it should be their choice as to whether or not they allow it. The same as it would then be the worker or consumers right not to go there or to go to another place.

For me? Smoking. I admit I'm a smoker but even when I wasn't I didn't have a problem with being around smokers so even if I quit I'd probably use both then.

I agree to it. Because if we smoke in a public place even if the others (mem, women and kids) dont smoke they end up doing passive smoking which is not very diffrant form active smoking. So why make them others suffer. If you want to smoke, smoke in a place where others dont get affected not in a public place.

I never smoked and totally disagree people smoking in closed public areas. They have no respect to people. Fortunately here in Italy is is strongly forbitten to smoke in closed public areas (airports, offices, stores, bar, etc...). I also disagree smoking in opened public places... I don't like smokers!

I think there have to be some limits to protect those who do not smoke, actually the majority of people now. BUT I think a lot of the smoking issues have gone too far. While I agree they shouldn't allow smoking in public places, they should also have to provide a place for smokers to go to enjoy their cigs on their own time. I've always had issues with "smoking breaks" at work. People take 10 a day with no issues yet if you don't smoke you don't get 10 breaks a day do you? I think there is a place and time for the restraints and I think smokers should be accomodated a bit so they can continue to smoke if desired but I also think there should be limits.

This is favorable for a non-smoker like me. I have tolerance for smokers, but at least they should also have the good heart to keep away from people who don't smoke. And don't you think this law can also help smokers who would like to quit from smoking? At least when they are in the office and public places they could resist the urge to get that stick.

Let's not mix offices with public places. A public place could be open, like a park or a side walk or something like that. I don't mind if somebody smoke there, cbecause i have pleny air for myself...:)) In closed public places, like offices, schools, hospitals or any other public institutions, smoking shouldn't be allowed. You can not force a children who walks in there to passively smoke. So it's clear, closed public places are not allowed for smoke.

I used to be a smoker, but I quit 7 years ago. I think it is a good idea to ban smoking from buildings and public areas, but then again the smokers need a place to puff away. The only place I could think of for a smoker is their own home, because it's not a public building and not actually public to everyone. However, that being said, what if you have kids in the home? That smoke would harm them, especially since it is second hand smoke. It's not easy to disagree or agree with this, because those who do smoke need some place to do this, and if you cannot do it at home, then maybe there should at least be a place for smokers. This is only an opinion. I personally hate the smell of it, but people do what they do, so I would say give them a place to do their smoking, at least away from non-smokers.

If a business wants to be non smoking, that is their option. I don't think the govt. should be able to make calls like that. They are getting to crazy at telling us what we can and cannot do.

I am a smoker yet I agree 100% that smoking should be banned in offices and public places as a general rule. I have made the conscientious decision to smoke fully aware of the dangers associated with it; however, smoking around others that do not takes away their decision to not smoke. It is not right for smokers to force their habit on others. As for public places, smoking is OK in my opinion as long as it is an open air area.

The only places I really have a problem with smoking (I'm a non-smoker) are in cramped places like public transport etc and restaurants. I jsu don't think there should be a whole lot of smoke flying around in a place where I'm trying to eat or worse yet, a place where I have my kids. I'm fine with outdoors or smoking in bars.

I totally agree. If I worked in one of these offices I would not want to breathe in any of there second hand smoke. There is so much cancer out there anymore and one of them is caused by second hand smoke. Why should we people that don't smoke have to suffer from you that do. If you want to smoke then you need to go outside away from people and do it there.

I totally agree as I don't like smoke at all. Other people that don't smoke shouldn't have to face all these problems. If people want to smoke and kill themselves is their problem, but they don't have to harm others. There are so many reasons why people shouldn't smoke in offices... smoke is bad for health, it harms more a non smoker than a smoker(!!!), it smells too bad and the smell sticks to our clothes, hair, disgusting. I think they should have a room for those who smoke, that would be a solution because going to smoke outside is not a very good solution. Workers are loosing time and making breaks just for smoking. Besides, they always go to the entrance of the building, when someone tries to enter or to go out is always that huge amount of smoke because they are smoking there. I think it's even worse than smoking inside, at least inside the smoke is not all in the same place.

I agree. I am not a smoker myself and I have nothing against smokers. But it annoys me when they smoke in public places and I can smell the smoke coming from their mouths, especially in restaurants where there is no non-smoking areas. I also agree with that so smokers can be minimized because it is posted even on the ciggarette packets that "Smoking is dangerous to your health". People really don't take that seriously because they are accustomed to seeing that warning, ehich makes no difference if they see it in ciggarrete packets. Also, in order to maintain a professional environment, work places like offices should be a non-smoking area as it also disrupts their work.
