I'm a big fan of Metallica, I have nothing against their newer stuff but I tend to gravitate towards their older music. Just my personal preference. I think and justice for all is probably my favorite album. I think Lars is one of the most talented drummers out there.

I really haven't heard their latest albums. The last album that I hear was the Load album and I really didn't care for it. I guess it would be the old metallica.

Well I'm anxious to know how's the new record is gonna sound like.Thank God they got rid of producer Bob Rock and hired Rick Rubin( He has been the producer for bands like Slayer,Slipknot,System Of a Down even The Beastey Boys). So i'm assuming something good has to come out from that new record..So we'll see

I love Metallica's first 5 albums, and I like Load and Reload alright, but St. Anger isn't very good. Garage Inc. and S&M were also great, but they weren't original albums, one was all cover songs and the other was Metallica playing with an orchestra. From the 2 new songs Metallica has been playing live lately, it sounds like their new album will be pretty good. It's supposed to come out this year, too. Go to Youtube and search for "metallica new song" and "metallica other new song" if you want to hear their 2 new songs. And yes, for now, Metallica is actually calling them "new song" and "other new song," at least, they were last time I checked.

I think old and new it's still the same Metallica, they changed the face of music years ago. And if you look around at the bands that were around back then, how many are still making music like Metallica? Not that many,Metallica is still growing and doing their thing. Ever band changes nothing stays the same. So I guess to answer your question it would have to be both because I still see them as the same Metallica they were when they came out.

Old Metallica was much better in my opinion - after the Black album, everything went downhill, nobody liked St.Anger's sound and it was the worst album they could record in my opinion.
I still wouldn't be so pessimistic about it, because at the moment, they are recording a new album that will feature an older sound (with solos, of course) and I'm really looking forward to it, the comeback of the good old 'Tallica.
