how to protect your cordless phone from your kid?

My 20 months old toddler always cry to play with cordless phone and sometimes it is really hard to divert him. But if I give that for some time he just plays and leaves it. But during that time I have to take care if he'll make a wrong call or even 911 so don't know what to do. Is this good to give him the phone? If not then what is the solution.
