Are Social Networking Sites like mylot,orkut,hi5 a boon or a bane?

The hottest thing on the internet nowadays are these sites which can be proved by the number of people joining them everyday.What do you think may be the reason? Please consider mylot differently because it is not based on a similar concept.

Sites as such as mylot and orkut provides people to mingle and make new friends, they also are used by internet sharks to lure youngsters to reveal their identity and cheat them. So I will put it both as boon and bane.

yes you are absolutely correct on the boon part since these sites really help us people mingle with each other very well.People of different communities and different countries make friends with each other and hold healthy discussions but when talkin about the bane art dont you thik it is nothin to do with the sites its a duty of a person to himself/herself to take care of the profile and not to fall in any traps that are there to cheat them.
