What does it take to be a genius?

I was watching the news a month ago, and they named this girl a genius because she wrote a book at the age of 11 or 12. I thought, "Maybe she is a genuis." I went to barnesandnoble.com and looked for the publisher she used. It turned out that she got published by a vanity press! They will publish any book for a set amount of money. So since she was able to get her work published at that age because her parents paid for it, she's considered a genuis? What about the other ways to be considered one? I've been wondering since my main goal in life is to become super-smart.

I just had to know, if you were referring to Swordbird by Nancy Yi Fin? I think the book is super silly, but kids love it.

I haven't heard of that one, but Nacy Yi Fin wrote Swordbird when she was 11. It was published by Harper Collins. Like I said, kids love it but I found it completely silly. I guess if I was an 11 year old girl who loved birds, I would think otherwise. :)

I've heard that saying and I do believe its true, but it takes so much work! I had to work extra hard in a math class to raise my IQ 3 points! (They said it couldn't be done after the age of 16, but I did that at 18!) I hope I wont have to read every book in the library, but if that's what it takes, that's what I'll do.

My son has been considered a genius by the standards they use at school. His IQ was over 150, however, he wasso bored he never went to school, and they kickedhim out in grade 11. Now he develops websites with a partner who also has an IQ over 150, and they aren't geniuses, just normal guys who know how to use a computer.

To be a "genius" you have to score a certain point level on a recoginized IQ test. You can be super smart and know all kinds of things and still not be a genius. If your goal in life is to be super educated, then just contining to learn and educate yourself on various things is what you need to do. If your goal is to be a genius, go take a Mensa IQ test. They will tell you if you are genius material or just really smart.

I've taken other IQ tests and have come up 10 or less points short.

No, because I've been writing stories since 7 but I am considered just one of the billion people who are not a genius. If her work is published just because it is paid, then even a new born infant can make a picture book (of course, it's abstract)and make it become published.
