I think the following:
a) They want to make themselves stand out.
b) They don't believe that they are very beautiful the way they are.
c) Tattoos all over the body are ugly.
d) They spent too much money on their tattoos, and they are not caring the important things in life.
Those are my thoughts, sorry if I think that. I don't want a tattoo because I love my body. I know many people like them, and we are discussing this issue. We are free to disagree. I might out you said "first impressions". Those are my "first impressions", but when you get to know many of the people with tattoos they are very nice. I know I could get the tattoos I don't care about the pain, it's just that I don't want to manipulate the body like that. I hope you understand, Wooitsmolly :)

I respect your opinion. I just want to react to one thing:
"d) They spent too much money on their tattoos, and they are not caring about the important things in life."
Isn't it important to make yourself happy and treat yourself (if it is within your means)? For some, having tattoos makes them not only happy, but reminds them of many things that have happened in their life. I believe that if they can afford it and it is a positive thing in their life, then that is a good thing and it isn't a waste of money.
I know it was just your opinion and first impression, as you said, I just thought I would add a little to the discussion. Thank you!

I have five tattoos so far, though they are all positioned so that normal clothing will cover them. My fiance has three tattoos, and two of his are on his forearm. Where we lived before, we rarely saw a lot of tattoos, and most of the ones we saw were pretty bad.
Now that we've moved to Seattle, though, we see a lot more tattoos, and they're pretty high quality. I love living in a city where even business people occasionally have a visible tattoo, and no one looks down on them for it! :)
I can't wait until I save up some money to start getting more tattoos. I have way too many planned! :)

I know what you mean, I have so many planned! I live in a little college town right now so all the tattooist in the area are very expensive and not that good, so I'm going to have to travel a little, but I don't mind. I just need to save up the money...

To be honest, I hate tattoos myself and would never ever contemplate getting one, I don't mind them on others so as long as they are no intrusive, covered is even better, but when people have them over, sorry but I think they look horrid. One guy had them over every part of his body and he looked awful and it wasn't nice to look at in fact it was the opposite. One or two max yes, any more NO!

For some reason I enjoy looking at people who have a lot of tattoos. One day I plan to have a lot, as well. I think it's interesting that you find them "intrusive" yet they are not taking up more space than uninked skin. Thanks for the response.

I have four tattoos and plan to have another one once I have finished the artwork. My tattoos are allunique as they are my own artwork, I thought very carefully before having my tattoos and I don't regret them

I got one a long time ago (I was 14) and of course ended up hating it so I got it covered. I still don't like it, but it is better and I don't regret getting it at all. I have a Sailor Jerry mermaid up my side and I really love that one, although I suppose others probably have it as well. I didn't want to change the artwork of it though because I thought it was so pretty. I plan to get many more and have been working on some designs of my own. Unfortunately, I cannot draw well at all, but I find it fun to play around and see what I can come up with.

To be honest, I really dislike people with LOTS & LOTS of tattoos. I think it's a hedious sight. Especially when they have been there a long time and the color starts 2 fade away...I like monochrome tattoos and JUST one or TWO.
I had my ear pierced once upon a time, but it's all gone now. Hey thanks u made me think of getting it done again!

I try to not judge, because everyone has the right to do as they please in this respect, but my first thought is truly OUCH! I can't imagine how painful it would be to have those tattoos applied. I am not a fan of tattoos and don't think I would ever get one for myself but I can see how it can be a unique form of expression. To each his own, but it's not for me.

I have 5 smaller ones scattered over my body and am in the process of getting both arms sleeved with horror movie images so I'm probably biased in saying that I like people who have lots of tattoos and think it looks very cool. I have seen the other side of it though where people will give me disgusted looks or think that I am a criminal or ex-con without ever taking the time to get to know me and find out that I'm actually a pretty decent guy....oh well, we can't stop narrow minded, judgemental behavior can we?

Well I think it's really cool that you are getting sleeves done and I plan to do the same some day. All you can really do is talk to people and then they'll see you are a nice guy... changing opinions slowly but surely, I guess!

I have four tattoos, each one of these is my own design and each one is unique. I am working on another piece of artwork which I plan to have as another tattoo. I feel that a lot of people take one look at those of us with tattoos and make snap judgments. I love my artwork and feel that with everything else, it is a matter of personal choice.

I think they may have a story to tell, I love them & happen to have 7 myself.
My first one was the clasic mom tattoo. I got that one when I was 17. After that I got all my adult bad boy tattoo's ....(LMAO)

Well, being from a slightly older set, I'd have to say I find some tattooing fascinating, but not too much or too many. I was raised to believe that people with tats were low class, no taste, inelegant, questionable integrity -- but I'll never forget the first time I saw one up close. It was on a man's fore-arm (he was a sailor), and it was a hula girl whose hips moved when he flexed his muscle. Fascinating for a young child!! Tats back then weren't as colorful or as artistic as the ones I see these days. Some of the modern ones are truly breathtaking! I would still suggest that they be in areas covered by regular clothing, though. There's enough anti-tat sentiment for them to be a liability in the workplace as well as on the social scene. Small and delicate, and in "sweet" spots is OK, but when they start to distract too much from your beautiful face and body then I'd be less for them. As a red head, you probably have that wonderful translucent skin, and it would be a shame to cover up too much of it. Think, "accent" not "mural!"

Well, my hair is not naturally red, unfortunately. While I appreciate your thoughts on the subject, I plan to get many tattoos and actually, mural is a great way to describe how I plan to cover my body one day!! haha! I just cannot help but love the look of tattoos.. Thank you for the response, I understand that there are a lot of people out there who don't like tattoos and that finding a job can be difficult. I am still young, I don't plan to get many tattoos until I graduate college, but I will be working on a few over the next couple years. Thanks :)

I try not to ever judge people. I would never get a tattoo for myself, but I don't like pain very much. It's also very permanent, and expensive to get removed, so it's not something to take lightly. I have to admit, when I see someone covered in tats, the first thing that comes to mind is $$$$$$. I know how expensive they can be, and all I can think is isn't there a better way to spend your money than covering yourself in ink? But to each his own.

I like tattoos. I have tattoos (boy do I want more LOL). My hubby has several tattoos. They can be distracting though. Sometimes I see someone with tattoos and get fixated on seeing them!
The only time that I ever sit wonder what the person was thinking, is when they tattoo their faces.

In some parts of body i feel tatoo snsuals, but i don' like people that have lot of tatoo. I read that in some cases make tatoo may be very dangerous for the health, if you want have tatoo you must go only by serious people that make them and be sure that they rispect the igienic rules!

I do'nt think it is a problem at all. I like tattoos and I think it is an avenue of self expression. I also think it is a form of artwork, why not? A canvas can be anything.

I'm with you on this one, I think it's pretty cool when someone walks down the street with arms full of ink. There's a limit where I think it's just too cluttered, but it all depends on how well done the tattoos are and how they relate to eachother.
