I heard on CNN today that it is believed that melamine was intentionally put in the wheat glutin that was in the pet foods that have killed or sickened many pets.It is believed that the plastic derivative was put in the glutin to make it look like the protein level was higher so they could get more money for it.At this point they do not think it was done to intentionally hurt anybody.
Any thoughts on all this?
What if it was a terrorizers attempt. And if it's that easy how protected is our imported foods?http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/petfood_update.html

I personally feel that it is an act of terrorism. We've had so many recalls in the last year. The biggest ones being the bagged spinach and then the peanut butter. And now pet food. It is just too much within one year.
If the pet food companies are intentionally putting this melamine in the pet food just to show on the package extra protein, that is just horrible! To put our poor pets at risk. Why wasn't this stuff tested first before being made available to the public?

I want to clearly state that the pet food companies were duped into thinking they were using a high protein wheat glutin. The fault lies with the wheat glutin company.I wonder when we buy prepared foods like bread...where did the ingredients come from? The bread was made in USA but where did the flour come from?Could this as easily happen to human food.I think that we have to look at the guidelines of the countries we allow imports to come from.

It's pathetic what some companies and people for that matter will do in order to make money. Personally I'd like them to feel the same thing the pets did with eating that food but I suppose that would be an inhumane punishment for them.
We've had so many major recalls in the past year one does have to wonder if there isn't more behind it. Even if it's just a fleeting thought it does come to mind that there might be more behind it then just human error or greed. I don't know if it's more but I pray it isn't. Either way though it does show how vulnerable some aspects of our lives are. Something we need to be more diligent about in order to protect ourselves.

My sister in law is making all the pet food for her cats, dogs, horses etc.She still has to buy the ingredients so what is she saving by doing this..She is a wonderful person and I love her dearly but she tends to have the knee jerk reaction to things..

I don't think that plant is going to be making much business now. I wonder if it was worth it for them. It is awful.

what if it was a dry run by terrorists and next it may be human food (look at all the prepared food in the stores that we buy)Its a scary thought isnt it!however if it could be done to our pets it shows just how vunerable we are !

I think it was terrible for what ever reason it was added. To make so many animals die or sick for the almighty buck. Money always makes the world go around. Maybe they didn't do it intentionally but they obviously didn't investigate the potential side affects.
