Breast implants?

In 2003, almost 336,000 teens 18 or younger had some kind of cosmetic surgery. I just finished reading a discussion here on mylot where a 16 year old girl wants breast implants and her b/f does not want her to get them. I was shocked to read some of the comments from people telling her it was her body and to dump her b/f etc. Either people did not check her age or they think it is ok for a teenage girl to get implants. So, that brings me to the question....What do you think about teens getting breast implants?

Not only do I think that women in general should not get implants, but teens.. thats unthinkable. There are few people that know what they want by age 21, so teens are even farther from a proper notion. If they are determined to do it, they should wait till a more mature age. Or think about the impact that the decision will have on their lives, not now, but in the future. Young girls are insecure and lacking life experience.. not the right time to make such a drastic and dangerous decision. Not all ladies that get operated, come out of it, with the best results. The people saying she should pop them suckers in and get rid of her unaproving boyfriend, are even more lacking in maturity than that girl.. very sad, indeed.

Very well said. I could not agree with you more, not to mention that young girls are still developing.

You are very correct about that.. the fact that at that age they are not fully developed, seems to be an after thought. That fact make any surgery dangerous, particularly because its smack dab in the chest. I have read of women who get the opposite result, and end up worse than what they previously had. So much pondering should be done, before jumping to a decision. And thanks for the kind comment..

I had my boobs done a few yrs back and though i wanted to get them done when I was 18-19 I'm glad I didnt...that being said, I honestly feel that any parent who allows their teenage daughter to get implants needs a slap upside the head! 16 yrs old IMO is too young, way too young.. If my daughter wanted to get a boob job I'd be fine with it PROVIDED she gave it serious thought and did the research for months and months and she would have to be an adult...Getting tats and body piercings as a teen is one thing, having major surgery is somethign totally different..

Anna Nicole - I'm sorry to see her in this angle - Recently died Hollywood actress.
Its the movie actresses glamor and follow up of Page cover Sceneries make them to go crazy about it. Recently I found the lost heroine image in a page cover to remember her. It is ridiculous to see such a image. She is none other than Anna Nicole in that pose.

16 is way too young to be making those choices and if parent let them then they should be slpped. At 16 a teens body is still developing so she goes from a "B" to a "D" wiht augmentation then the body adds more to make her even bigger not right and should not be done at all for teens specially that young and why are doctors even doing it. They take some oath that makes them hollier than thou and yet they do things liek this that can have health issues to any one.

You insult me. Need I tell all you people that the 16 year old girl whom she's talking about is me! And she's going all out on her own misunderstanding. Maybe you should go back to my discussion and read my replies. I agree with you all! 16 is way too young~ but did i ever say I was getting them done right now? I just said it was something I wanted. What do you take me for, lady?

You never said when you were getting them. What you said was "So I was thinking a/b going on a trip with my sister to get implants nothing too crazy~ just a size or 2 bigger~." No where did you say that you were not getting them done now. I did read your replies. Thanks!

I'm not sure what Doctor would condone a girl of that age to do such a thing, due to the fact that she's probably not developed completely yet. But that aside, I'm a little disturbed (but sadly not surprised) that this is such a pressing topic in teenagers. Media of the day, from magazines to television, has done an excellent job of shaping the self image of just about every woman, (and man as well), to take on extreme, often unattainable cosmetic goals, celebrating prosthetic perfection, and slandering perfectly human attributes. This is not an issue that can be combated easily, you can't stop teenagers from forming social groups based on physical appearance anymore than you can stop media from corrupting ideal beauty of most of them. What you -can- do is raise your children to value things that are far more important then bust size and weight.

I'd say it's between the teen, her parents and her doctor. The boyfriend doesn't really have that much of a say since it's not his chest. On a personal level, I'm against implants in general. I've worked in a couple of industries where they were far too prevalent and I wasn't a fan. I've known some mature teens, but a decision like that is far too serious to make without a lot of thought and research. It really would come down to a case-by-case decision, depending on the teen and her reason for wanting to do it.
