1st world country outsource thier business to countries such as the Philippines and India because these countries has a pool of english speaking people. The pay are cheaper than thier counterpart n the first world nation. In call center it doesnt matter if you have no degree or havent finish your college education just as long as you understand and knows how to speak english. If you would compare the salary of call center agent to those that have degrees and working on a private company, the pay are way to far from thier`s. Salary from call centers ranges from 15-20k a month, and yet it gets negative publicity. We should be thankful enough to these company who invest in our country that generate thousands of jobs to our people. Promotion is fast and not base on tenure, just as long as you do your job well and show them what you are made of. For me this is a GREAT JOB!!

we have different outlooks in life. i really value my degree. i applied what i've learned and studied in my college years. i do value money but not to the extent or risks of sacrificing my degree. believe me, you can never feel accomplishments and success when you're not working on the job that fits your skills. i have friends who are registered nurses but they're working in call centers, not as company nurses but telemarketers. i can't imagine the feeling of being in the medical field and yet, they're working in call centers. they must be in the hospitals. before we decide on what course to take up, we considered our field of interests, working and mental skills,so that we would know what course will fit us and mostly, won't regret after graduation. we have plans, goals and ambitions to achieve before we entered college. well. i haven't heard someone saying "when i'm done with my studies in college, i'll work in call centers". peace to all.

i am doing a call centre job so i think i could gve u the best idea.
actually its a mix of bag which comes with lots of thing. i do it for the money thats the foremost thing. ya sometimes it takes on esteem because you do not need to be technical sound and u can get a job on ur high school qualification. now the life. in call centre every day is a different day. u could laugh ,cry,be idot, screem and n number of people talk to you, but on the downline you could not get self stisfaction in life what u are doing about.

of course it is a decent job, and a very challenging one. since the start of call center job in the country, we have lots of opening for fresh grads and opportunities are better now than before. i think though that it is overrated and sometimes people think badly of our work.

Well I wouldn't say it's the last resort job for me.
The reason I am a call centre operator is because of my health, I cannot do any physical work anymore, so a sit down job suits me.
However, some people are just born customer service orientated, I must say I class myself as not being too bad at customer service. I chose this type of work when I had to change careers and believe me it was a big change from physical work to none physical work, because I believe I would be good at it, apart from it being a sit down job.
So no I don't think it is a last resort job at all, in my eyes it is a decent job.

it would never be cool or overrated. how can it be cool when you're working on graveyard shifts? for me, it can never be a great job because even undergrads can work in call centers and different profession, what matters most here is the way you speak in english, how fluent you speak in english. great job is a job which you can feel your own achievement, you use your mental ability and your working while you are also learning. i heard about comments on call center jobs, i don't know how true it is, the work you're going to do in call center is that, in front of you, there are guides or printed scripts or steps on what to say or do during client calling or telemarketing, how can you grow with this kind of job? you feel like a robot, you're just being commanded on what will you do and what will you say every time you work. is this worth if you are a degree holder. is it worth your college hardworks and sacrifices just to finish your studies? and the thought is that only your ability to speak english will matter most, your skills or strategies from yourself are useless. peace! it's only me and my friends' opinions.

I used to work in a call center before as an Account Manager, at the Customer Service Dept. (Website Company)... it's cool to work there, I've got to learn so many things, and develop American tongue, forget about the "borlog eyes" and Coffee Addiction... But I still love my Teaching profession that is why I resigned from the company.

Depends on what company you are working for. I despise telemarketers!! But a call center for an internet based business in necessary and very helpful for the customer. I worked at one and had to leave due to health problems, but I loved it. It was very challenging and BUSY, time went by very quickly on my shifts. I made good money, so it is not a job for those who canot apply for a more decent job. It's a job for people who are up for a challenge and willing to learn and work hard.

its a great help since it creates a lot of employment opportunities, and doesnt have that much requirements compared to other jobs, and of course, it gives a decent and reasonable pay. but i dont find it cool since you'd give in to a lot of health risks especially when you're doing night shifts.

Well i have been in the Call Center Industry for the Past 9 months and had been promoted thrice. I would say its one of the best job and one of the High paying job here in the Philippines next to Nursing and a decent one to. A decent one because highschool graduate and an undergrad like me can even apply as a Call Center Agent as long as he/she is good in conversational english. Call Center a Last Resort Job, i dont think so in fact its one of the Sought after Job next to Nursing.
