Having read some of the replies to some of the threads here and not believing what I'm reading, I was wondering if you read profiles before you give advice. If you don't, maybe some of you should. lol No offense!

Hi! I totally agree. It is very interesting to read profiles. You not only get a clue as to the person's vital stats like age, location and gender. You could also learn a lot from their interest and things that they have talked about. It allows you to form a partial impression of the person you are about to have a discussion with. This is very good advice thank you. Have a great day myLotting.

I do sometimes SwtRose, but I am wondering for example why you think we should. I would be very interested to know what has prompted your discussion here. I sense some humor, and quite curious to know what you are not finding believable.

Hello Angel, I have no problem sharing what prompt my discussion. One of the discussion I was reading was a thread started by a 16 year old girl who wanted implants and her b/f did not want her to get them.

Gee Swtrose that is just sad! That sixteen year old girl needs to put her focus somewhere else. Maybe not on herself so much!

I usually don't. It takes a lot for me to check profiles of the people I respond to. I usually just reply and move on. I usually only check profiles of the people that want to be my friend.

Typically, I spend as much time surfing profiles, as I do writing responses. Mostly I check profiles because I am loath to write "culturally irrelevant" responses... if someone is merely writing about "driving regulations" and it turns out they live in India, writing an answer to them is a waste of time-- mine AND theirs. Reading profiles sometimes reveals interesting things. Especially when someone who's listed in their profile as being 22 years old starts a discussion with the phrase "I am not sure what to give my wife for our 10th anniversary...." Huh? Thanks for the reminder, though...

You got to be kidding about that 10 year thing. Do people really do that here on mylot? I thought that kind of think was only in chat rooms.

I believe that advice can be given on a specific question alone, in most cases it is not necessary or even helpful to read an "about" page for the individual. Advice is someone's opinion on a given situation, and profile information is only relevant insomuch as it relates to the question at hand. I disagree! Would you give a teen the same advice that you would give an adult?

The only time I have thought to read someone's profile is when I thought I thouhgt I would like to get to know someone better, like you! LOL I also figure most people don't fill out their profile. I didn't so I assume others don't either. I guess I am wrong about that.

I usually write first and then check the profile and sometimes I have be en angry with myself when I can obviously see that the person is lying to fish for alot of responses.. It makes me angry how someone can lie about serious stuff that other people go through for real, just to get more responses. I am more careful now to what i reply to, then I was when I first started here.

I always check out the profile before I accept someone as a friend, but never thought to do so before responding to a request for advice. Really a good idea as I have often spent a lot of time writing a response, doing some research to help someone, only to see them posting something later that totally contradicts their original post. I will definitely start checking profiles.

I do not bother to check the profiles for this might influence my opinion about them and then i may decide to give a different one about the topic. I will read whay others have posted and see if what i was going to say has been said and thinkgs liek that. Soem of the people whoposted replies i will checkout theres to see if i can get a bit of insight into why they answered the way they did.

Sometimes I do, because I try to see what other stuff they post and what not. But not always. I do think it's a smart chocie though, to make that a regular practice, because maybe what I'm spending all that time typing will make no sense to that person!!

I check them sometimes mostly to see where they are from and how old they are. I do forget sometimes that people here are from lots of different places and I might not always make sense to them.

Hi,Swtrose! Well,I seldom read users profiles before I give advice and that's to say,I can make minor mistakes to the users. For example,I posted resonse to a user and then she sent me a mail and told me that she is a Chinese too and of course she knew nearly everything about China. I felt so embarrassed after I read her mail. But,anyway,I still read users profiles before I give advice. But I do read my friends' profiles.
