It seems that vegetables is one of the most disliked food. And eating vegatables has always been an issue in the family. The children will not eat vegetables. It's like a losing battle on the parents' side. This is a growing concern in our family. We fear that the children will grow up not liking to eat any vegetables. What can we do?

I don't have any children, but a while ago I was watching a programme where some parents had the same problem. One way they dealt with it was that the kids had their own vegie garden, they recommended planting things that were low maintenance and grew quickly. That way they could eat what they grew and the kids they showed liked that idea. The only other way I have heard of is to put the vegies in with other things casseroles, savoury mince etc. Good luck.

I think the secret is in the sauces, I can't eat most vegetables, I like carrots and peas but I like them raw, the others I find a lot easier if covered heavily in a nice sauce, I can eat just about anything cooked in a thai flavoured sauce, its just a matter of finding out what sort of sauce your chils would accept.....

What can I say?...well, what about you, do you really eat vegetables? Or, it depends on the way how it's cooked, or if there's meat in it? :)

There's really no way to actually force someone to each something they don't want. In my house, we have a rule that you should try something at least once and if you don't like it you never have to have it again, but tastes change over the years so that's really not realistic any way. Vegtables are healthy, but they aren't fun to eat so kids avoid them. I think if there was a fun way to eat them, then they would try them. My kids always liked carrots so I would slice them up cold and serve them with a dip. They also liked corn so I would slice up the cob and put it on a stick for them. These little tricks worked, but not always. Our kids sure do keep us on our toes.
