I have a Siemens Speedstream 4200 adsl modem/router. The modem/router has two ports, 1 ethernet and 1 USB. I can share the internet connection for my two PCs but one has to be connected to the USB. However, I want both of them to be connected via ethernet coz for me the USB isn't just as reliable. Any suggestion will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

You need a hub switch and three utp cable straight with RJ45 connector incl.Use a cable utp to connect modem and hub,use another cable to connect hub to pc. if you use win xp, setting ip address in automatic.Enable dhcp setting in modem.Good luck !

As I said above, if he buys a switch/hub to add onto his existing kit he might just as well pay a little extra and buy a new modem/router/switch/hub/firewall with 4 ethernet ports instead of the one he has now, and keep it simple.
One last word of advice, take it or leave it. Don't buy cheap when it comes to routers, buy a good brand - there is a big difference in performance and reliability.
If you buy second hand on ebay you can expect to buy trouble that the seller has experienced.

Better to buy another router\modem - one with 4 ethernet ports and forget the usb. I don't like the usb port used for anything other than a printer. It seems to make problems when networking.
You could buy just another router and use your existing one as just the modem but the cost difference is so small it isn't worth the over compliation.
Beware if you are using Vista as many old modem\routers don't work with Vista.
