Where do your kids go after school? Home? DayCare? Friends?

I used to send my kids via the school bus to day care for about an hour & 1/2 before I picked them up, but things changed and they come right home on the bus now. I work so that I can just make it home in time to meet the bus, but my husband is home, and my mom lives right next door if I can't make it on time. I know of other kids (who are anywhere from 10 to 14) that go home to an empty house. Others of that age still go to the children's center (day care) to wait to be picked up. What do your kids do? Or grandkids do?

A great question- at what age can you child come home before you after school and how long should they be left alone? My daughter is 10- she goes to daycare after school for about an hour- I think 10 is toooo young to be a latchkey kid. I'm not sure what age I'll let her brave the hour at home without me- Actually it would be more like 45 minutes- longer bus ride- Sure daycare is expensive-- But its safe- and fun! One of my daughters best buds is her age- and goes home alone after school. she has strict rules- dont answer the phone or door-- only her cell phone tell her mom gets home... It is legal- but I wouldn't do it!

Well for us there is usually someone home so my neice just gets off the bus and comes home. Now she's at the age where if we aren't at home she can come home to an empty house, she's 12. Now when she was younger if we weren't going to be home we'd have someone pick her up instead and take her to their place and we'd pick her up on the way home. Now my other neice goes to Place (after school care) because both her parents work. She's 10 and they don't want her coming home to an empty house.

My son takes the bus directly home in the evenings, but I work a 6 hours day to be home when he gets off of school. Since we have had him with us full time either my husband or myself have been able to be home in the afternoons. When my ex-husband had him full time my mom got stuck with all of the afternoon duties.

My kids come straight home from school. Ocassionally if I am not at home, I will make sure that someone else can pick them up. Apart from being to dangerous, I wouldnt be able to trust my kids both home alone.

my kids have always came straight home...when my kids were younger i had a state licensed day-care in my home so that i would always be there for my kids...now we have moved to a different state and have only the youngest child left at home..i still watch afew kids afterschool for grocery money...my oldest daughter is a stay at home mom..so my grandbabies come home after pre-school too

I don't work so my kids come straight home off the bus. I do also know kids that are like aged 9 and up that go home alone. But I wouldn't be comfortable with that. If for some reason I couldn't be home i'd make sure my husband or someone was home to be with the kids, but mine are younger 7 1/2, and 5.
