Despite being the one of the top teams in Eurpoe why have liverpool not managed to win the EPl for over a decade (almost two now). They have top quality players like Gerrard, Carragjer, Kuyt, Kewell etc.. They have had top Managers...Keagan, Houllier, Rafa. Is it consistency?? Is it the bad starts to the season that they have? Lac of players?

I think the first and foremost reason was Gerard Houllier. When he became coach Liverpool used to play and attacking game, but then he changed Liverpool's game to a defensive one and that killed off all attractiveness in their game and their results also started going down. Now, Benitez has injected some attractiveness and attack to the game, but the other teams have just gone ahead of them. I think Liverpool still has two years before it can seriously challenge for the EPL. Till then their best bet would be a home and away championship like Uefa Champions League. This time they have one foot already in the semifinals. Let's see how long they go. Cheers! Ram

If you look at Liverpool history they last won the league in 1990 under the manager Kenny Dalgish. Since then Greame Souness and Gerard Houllier have been at the helm of things and I feel that both were simply not good enough. You saw what Greame Souness did to the Newcastle team. Cheers! Ram

Liverpool have been a regular stronghold in the EPL. But as you said for a decade or two they didn't win the league, the reason for this i feel is that they have always been the second best or even third best in the league, all the english clubs seems to defend them well at their respective home matches. They seem to be bad travelers. A champion team can defeat all the teams at any place, remember what chelsea did for two years. I don't think there is any problem of lack of player's. And even if they start badly they have enough matches to try to make a comeback. I think it's just consistency, actually they consistently perform mediocrely in away matches.

i was thinking of the same..thanks for ur view!! being a liv fan i sometimes get really frustrated watching them lose away points like this. It is probably the atmosphere created at anfield that is not found much around england.

Well, d best reason wat I think dey didn't make it dis time is jus dat d red devils really muscled every1 out dere. Dey showed deir class & outclassed every1. Dat didn't allow Liverpool 2 win, as simple as dis. Dere's no other reason 4 deir failure as far as I can think.

I think Benitez has to change the goalkeeper. I find Reina very inconsistent. On top of that, their defense side is rather weak. Most of the time, you'll see Carragher working his butt out. I think there should be more good addition for this side. I think the strikers are doing a good job now... They just need to have new players for the weaker area.

FYI--reina has had the most number of clean sheets than any other keeper in the EPL....that does highlight consistency to an extent! But about the defence i shud agree cos LFC need ppl other than carra whom they can depend on!

For me,liverpool make mistake at the start season, Liverpool always perform at the last of the season, take a look when they beat Arsenal 4-1, and new result with PSV 3-0, Reading 2-1, This is good result, 3 win in the row.

i feel that liverpool lacks that consistency ,in big games they do play to their potential but in patches.liverpool need to be more aggressive and they should play more around gerrard
