defragment your hard drive to access files faster
scan for viruses/spyware using something like norton antivirus, mcafee antivirus, kaspersky antivirus, etc. spyware can slow your computer quite drastically
use a program such as msconfig to see what stuff your computer is loading up on start-up and uncheck the stuff that you dont want to load everytime you turn on your computer
in terms of hardware, getting some more ram should help your comp not to slow down when you have lots of things open at once. a gig of ram should be enough for it not to slow down at all, even when using multimedia apps

If it just got slower, maybe you have too much on there.
Why don't you start deleting things that you never use.?
Also, you may have a virus of some sort and may have to have someone check over your computer to see what is going on.
If this just happened, sometimes you can turn your computer right off and start it up again and it is fixed.

Computers naturally slow down the more they are used. To get back some of that lost performance try:
Deleting old and unused programs.
Running a disk cleanup to get rid of unneeded files.
Defrag your hard drive to organise files better.
Download a RAM optimizer program to make sure your memory is used in the best way possible.
Run a virus scan to check for problems
The above will get back some of the lost performance from your pc but if you really want to speed up your pc you should:
Re-install your operating system. This gets rid of everything on your pc and starts a new. If you choose to do this you need to backup your important files first.
The most effective way to speed up a pc is to upgrade it. You could buy a entire new pc but that would cost a lot of money. Buying some extra RAM would increase your computers performance and at a relatively low cost. Some sites you should check out are:
