Going green at a party

I just had a birthday party for someone and I must admitt I had a lot of trouble staying green. I mean what do I do what the balloons, the left over food that noone will eat, the half bitten sandwiches, the napkins.....
I managed to save the plastic cups and I plan to reuse until I have no choice to recyle but what about the rest of the stuff. The plates were paper and very dirty. Not easy to clean cheese dip and other things off these plates. I'm green but I'm not that green yet. Any suggestions on what I can do for the next party without having to involvce other family memebers because a few would just roll there eyes and ignore me. Something that I can do on my part.

You can refrigerate the left over food, andtake it to a local homeless shelter if there is a lot, or just eat it for the next few days. The rest of it you will just have to chalk up to experience. Next time you have a large party, I suggest you use real dishes from one of those party catering companies. They bring the clean dishes and take away the dirty ones. By the way, If you have a compost bin, you can throw the rinsed paper plates in that as long as you mix it in with lost of veggies.

The left over food that I can put in the fridge I do put in the fridge, but the stuff that someone else took a bite out of or threw in the trash I'm not willing to put back in my fridge. That's not healthy. Catering is not in my budget so I can't do that. Not composting the paper plates....didn't know you can do that...cool thanks. How about the balloons?
