How many of you have cursed at someone else because they're not paying attention to their driving because they're on the phone? I know that I have. I've never gotten cursed at for it, but I do talk on mine while I drive. I've been told that people still feel safe with me like that, because I'm always checking my mirrors and looking over my shoulder before I change lanes or things like that.
What do you think a good solution to that would be? I know that here in Minnesota, it's now illegal for teenagers to talk on their cells while driving. It's a huge fine. They've found that it's mostly people that don't have much experience driving that have the issues. That brings up another thing-putting make-up on while driving. That drives me nuts as well. If I don't have time to do it at home, I go without at work.
Basically, my take on it is that it should be mandatory that everyone have ear buds if they're going to talk while driving, or some sort of hands free kit, so that they can concentrate on what they're doing, not keeping the phone up to their ears constantly.

well cuse is not right as i have my kids in the car. but its hard to understand why they do it, and there are hand free sets and so forth, people that think this is there right too make the roads unsafe for the rest of su. if mine rings, i see who the number belongs to and if its just a friend i let the voice mail get it. if important i pull over. i cannot and will not talk and drive.

Personally, I never tlak on the phone while driving-- I pull of if I must call someone while I'm on the road.
Most people are not nearly as attentive as you are, even though they CLAIM to be. I mostly can tell because they often slow waaay down, and then speed back up, and slow down... and sometimes wander slowly out of their lane or towards the ditch.
Some time back the Insurance Institute of America conducted some research that fairly conclusively showed that people are 90% more likely to have auto accidents while talking on the phone-- didn't really matter whether they were using "hands-free" phones or not. The accidents are less likely to happen DURING a conversation; it's the process of finding and answering a ringing phone, and/or dialing someone to start a call that's the biggest problem... during that short time, your attention is almost 100% on the phone, and not on the road and traffic.

Using a mobile phone while driving is illegal in the UK but far too many people ignore the law and continue to yack on their phones while driving. So many accidents have been caused by idiots too busy on their mobile phone to pay attention to the road, but at least a proper hands free kit would help a little

There's alot of controversy surrounding whether or not hands free -really- helps the core issue with talking on a cell phone while driving. My personal experience has yielded little difficulty maintaining my concentration on the road, but i realize if i know there's a serious conversation at hand, IE: A fight, confession etc., that i save it for when i get off the road. I'm not sure I've ever talked on the phone for more then three to five minutes while driving, though, and i imagine people who get into serious conversations, hands free or otherwise, yelling into their phone, have something other on their mind then just how far they've veered out of their lane.

I deffinetly do that. I get angry when someone is on their phone. Its agaisnt the law and it causes people to drive like maniacs. Even though it is law they do not enforce it at all
