21 Year Old Young Man Murdered - What Is Wrong With Our Youth?

April 8, 2007 4:39pm CST
The other night a 21 year old young man was stabbed to death in a local Social Club here in New Jersey. A Social Club is a place where they serve drinks, play music and serve food. As a member, you are allowed to invite one guess. I've actually been in this club many times. Here is what happened. The 21 year old young man was in the bathroom. Another guy burst through the door hitting the 21 year old guy. The 21 year old guy told him he could at least say he was sorry for hitting him with the bathroom door. The guy wouldn't apoligize and ask the 21 year old guy to step outside and fight. They went outside and the 21 year old guy beat him badly. He then went back into the social club. About 30 minutes later the guy who was beat up came back with 4 other guys. One guy pulled out a gun near the bar and told everyone to mind their business, while the other 3 beat the 21 year old young man with a chair and eventually stabbed him to death with a icepick. They left the scene but the one who he beat up earlier (the same person who stabbed him) was arrested later and remains in jail, charged with murder. Afterall everyone in the social club knew what happened. My question is this:How can someone kill someone, ruin his own life and destroy 2 families over something as simple as just apoligizing for hitting someone with a bathroom door? There is a good possibility that the suspect will spend the rest of his life in jail over something that could have been avoided. How stupid it is to be having a drink, listening to some music and being with friends 1 minute and the next minute being locked up for life? What is wrong with our youth? Why don't they have any respect for life?Lloyd

I don't know, Lloyd. The actions of some of our youth towards other people is very distressing. We would never dream of doing what you described to someone. Too many of them act like animals. This guy thought he was a tough guy. When he lost the fight he initiated, he wanted to get even, so he went and got some help to teach this 21 year old a lesson. Yet, the only lesson learned was that nothing good could come from his wounded pride. Respect is something one earns. It cannot be demanded. I just don't know how they think doing something like this would earn them respect. It's so sad. God Bless

It is truly a sad situation all the way around. Nothing good came from his wounded pride. Now you have 2 families moarning, 1 guy charged with suspected murder and 3 others charged as accesories to the suspected murder. I wonder what they are thinking right now as they are in their cells. Lloyd.

They're probably blaming the murdered 21 year old for dare asking for an apology when the door hit him.

I don´t understand the point of killing someone. What does it prove anyway? The person you are angry at or whatever doesn´t learn anything from this because they are dad. The people that actually suffer are the family and they didn´t do anything to you. Then when you are caught you and your family now suffer too. It is bizarre and I can´t quite wrap my mind around it. Is that person really worth tormenting your own family and forfeiting your own freedom for? Seriously now. I do not know what is happening with people or young people. How apathetic and callous they seem.

That was sad and so easily avoidable. A simple "I'm sorry" even if he did not mean it could have been enough. I seems that so many young people want to impress their peers or not lose face that they take thing to the limit.

That's the problem I have with this whole thing. I was simply so avoidable. Both sides could have just walked away. One guy could have just apoligized. Now look at the big mess this has caused. So many people suffering over this. Lloyd

This is one proof that for most of the young generation, morals are values of the past. Humility is really something that is also hard to find these days. We will hear lots of people say that they never made a single mistake in their lives and that they are very good and have friends to boot. But we know better, those who claim that they never commit mistakes are the ones who makes a habit out of it. For me, it is always best to stay away from places where people with bad frames of mind tend to hang out.

Not always, but many times they are raised that way. They do not have good role models. They have low self-esteem. This makes them feel powerful for the moment. Look at the model, Naomi. She is constantly hitting her help in the head with a cell phone. She does it over and over. And she gets off. Her cleaning to pay for what she did is nothing. She gets off easy. She will probably do it again. She thinks she is funny. She has no respect for anyone.

You are probably right in that it makes them feel more powerful with that kind of behavior. It's just such a waste of precious life. Lloyd

That is really terrible!!! What a waste of his life and the heartache that he has caused for all the families and friends involved. I personally would say the other 3 are responsible as well, they should have dragged their friend out of there before he could do what he did. I myself cannot understand why people can't just get a long, nothing is so bad that they have to beat each other up or kill each other. We have a lot of gang issues here in California, it's really sad to see how our youth has no respect for life and no fear. They believe they are invincible(?).

You would have thought his three friends would have advised him better. I used to live in Los Angeles and experienced the gang problem there first hand. Lloyd

Apart from too much ego and lack of common sense, it begs the question: how did their parents raise them.

The victims mother stated that she didn't even know her son frequented that particular social club. She was surprised and shocked. I don't know anything about the parents of the others. Lloyd

It is pretty much a lack of education on both part. Anyone in this day and age who resort to violence should know that it is against the law under any circonstance. You are not even allowed to hit someone who is trying to steal your car. You have to ask him politely to stop what he is doing. So which part of "no violence" our youth does not understand? Was it fair for the 21 year old to ask for an apology in the first place? It is not like the guy did hit him on purpose. Then the next thing he does... is to go down in the street to fight him. Probably because he reckons he can take him. What he did not count on... was that the guy had friends... If you are going to use violence... it becomes the law of the jungle. And the law of the jungle dictate that the loser has to die. For my part... the 21 year old was just as bad as the murderer. And he was the one who started the whole incident when he demanded an apology.

Thank you for your opinion. You are the first one who put the blame on the 21 year old guy. I know I wouldn't like for someone to just slam a door into me. I don't know if I would have taken it to the next level by engaging in a street fight. This is just a tragic story all the way around. Lloyd

The judge will look at it the same way than I did... and will find excuses for the murderer. If I demanded an apology to someone... and he refused to give it to me... I would not take it to the next level and go down in the street. I would say "Forget it... you are not worth it". If the guy had attacked me in the bathroom... that would be a different story. But if I choose to go down in the street... that don't make me any better than he is.

Hey, that's so stupid. But I feel that youngsters now a days r very short tempered, n very careless. They never think about the consequences of their actions , n so they end up ruining their lives. I personally m 21 , but i mextra careful bout what I say n do, so that I don't end up ruining my future. But my bf is so short tempered, n I always have to be wit him, to control his temper, or else dunno wat he wud have dun.

I live in New Jersey and didn't hear about this. That IS very sad, and depressing that people actually act like that. And they stabbed him with an icepick, that is so violent and wrong in so many ways. I'm sorry for that guys family. Life is far more important than any squabble.

It was on the front page of the Burlington County Times. Stabbing him with an icepick shows that they had intention to do harm. By the way I work in Fort Dix. Lloyd

I live close to philadelphia and get the local news from there. In the city there has been on average a murder a day since the beginning of the year. It's ridiculous.

Yeah you are right. Why people become impatient and murder another people? I think almost of us have forgotten our duty to back to our religion. In there we will find the peace for our life. Just make a good relationship to others and become a good man.

That is just sick...and over something so minor. That could have been avoided. i wonder if the stabber was drunk or stoned. It doesn't matter, thoguh. Regardless, he still took that ice pic and plunged it into the other man's body several times, killing him. It's just repulsive. i don't understand how anyone can do such a thing. How effing selfish to ruin two families and many friends' lives just because you were too much of an a$$ to apologize for hitting someone with a bathroom door? Wow. Lloyd, i am just glad it wasn't you in that club.

I stopped going to that club a few years ago because the demographics changed. It use to be a more adult crowd, but it changed to a younger more rowdy crowd. I'm glad I wasn't there also. Thanks. Lloyd

I don't think its restricted to the young. All that violence over a stupid accident, neither one willing to let it pass- it seems like people feel powerless and so seek ways to exercise power over one another. Every night the news describes murdrs and fatal accidents with the people involved lit lhit and runs- being indifferent to their responsibility. People are powerless over so many of the issues that matter in shaping our lives. Old peopple gt violent too, and middle aged people-domestic violence is people of all ages, and violence against children is often do'ne by people up in years. that the young do it, shows that it is what they learned-from older people. WE need to examine the whole fabric of our society and begin to work on healing it.It seems to get worse and worse in so many ways.

You are right. It's not just restricted to the young. But it seems so senseless when a 21 year old young man's life is snuffed out over such a ridiculous event. Lloyd

I believe younster now adays doesnt value life anymore. They take life just like taking the life of an insect. they don't fear anybody anymore. Who is to blame? I dont know who is to blame but social organizations as well as the government should be alarmed on this one and act on it. They dont respect life, God and I guess law is nothing to them.

oh my god...where is this world heading to now??? y do ppl drink and lose their senses...now who is to suffer. its the family of the murdered guy and the guy in jail. All in vain. All these things are totally unwanted disasters in one's life. Why would they both first decide upon to go out and fight. Did they go there for that purpose??? Why cant they take tihngs lightly and just enjpy teir time over there. If educated ppl are goin to behave like this, then think about others...very disgusting
