Since I started positng here at myLot and became a part of the Philippines section, almost all of what I read about my country Philippines borders around the negatives. While I am not advocating closing our eyes to reality, I believe that NO COUNTRY could ever rise from underdevelopment if it will only be accentuating its negative factors. The only way to rise up is to concentrate on our many postives. If we could have 20 positives againts 80 negatives, that is already a very good start. I could not really understand why our culture is so pessimist -- we are really blind to the beauty of our own country. Imagine this -- once a Pinoy could amass much money the dream vacation will always be abroad! We never value our own! This time let's talk about the beauty of the Philippines. Let's start with our own people. For centuries, the Filipinos stand tall and proud in this part of Asia. We have one of the most talented people around -- world-class talents recognized abroad. We could speak the languange of the international marketplace -- English, that's why call centers are mushrooming here. Please contribute here EVEN JUST ONE POSITIVE side of your country -- that is if you love the Philippines. If you don't love the Philippines, I still love you anyway.

Filipinos are jack of all trades, peace loving, hospitable and can live even without a single cents. He can turn garbage into gold, can learn and speak multiple language without going to academy and can love even his enemy. Filipinos who live abroad still go back to be buried here because once a filipino always a filipino by heart.

You are right. I think from time to time, we must remind ourselves to think half-full rather than half-empty, to light a small candle rather than just curse the night. Thanks for sharing your thought, my fellow Pinoy! Long live Philippines!!!

hello there tombiz. nice of you talking good about our country, how beautiful our place is. i just arrived from bohol today with good memories. yes, for 1 week i spent my vacation there with a dear friend who shouldered all our expenses for that trip. she came all the way from gitagum misamis oriental. and i m here in cebu city. we met in bohol. it is my first time to be in that glorious place. our first destination was in panglao. oh boy how i loved the beach. thepodery white sands and clear blue waters. we were there for two days., we spent the day swimming. we were like small kids, lying on the shore no need for us to to deep part because the water really is so cold and clean. if youre a nature lover bohol is for you. then aftewr that we went to the site of blood compact then to albur town to see the biggest capitve python in the phillipines. the name of that python is prowny. a 10 year old python 24 feet long and weighs 200 kilos. then the following day we went to badiang a water spring resort in valencia. i was shocked there because of the price of locall kakanin., very very cheap. then on good friday,as a catholic we went to krus dako in loboc for the station of the cross. we spent the night there under the moon and stars. at the struck of dawn wse made our 14 station of the cross. it was really a sacrifice. at my age, im 47 years old, i find walking a very strenous task. but to tell you i made it. then comes easter sunday, we were able to hear mass after the hugos. we rest for a day. yesterday, we climbed the chocolate hills in carmen. i was pissed off coz i was not able to bring a camera. so folks better take a camera to capture the moments and the views. so there tombiz, theres no place like phillipines. loev our own patronize our own. guests welcome... iwill gladly show you around.

Bohol is now a very famous tourist spot and a soon-to-be worldclass destination. In fact, being a native of Leyte, a feel a little bit of envy hehehehehe -- we are neighbors anyway. I hope tourism could also be developed in my area. I am planning to be in Bohol soon. If ever we members of myLot will plan of a National myLot Gathering -- an idea I am proposing -- I think it should be held in Bohol.

I don't understand this. Why do people have to be like this? I am from Texas, and when I was in the US amry, one of my best friends was from the philippines. He was smart, funny and had a good head on his shoulders. I don't think any person should be put down. Where you live and what race you are should never be a factor in anything. I am sorry to hear this. To be honest, just remember that people who act like this only do it because they are unhappy with themselves. They put others down and push them back to make themselves feel better. Do not let this get to you. If you want to hear a posisitve side about your country? You. You just proved to me that not only did one of my best friends come from the philippines, but it is full of smart, caring people. Thank you for that.

Wow, thanks for that very good testimony, man! Coming from you there in Texas, I am really touched! Your comment just shows the inner beauty and strength of being a Filipino -- something that we here took for granted for a long, long time. Mabuhay!

I'm with you kapatid. I could not stress enough, maybe - this just tells me to do more for my country. We have this unique behaviour of taking all in a stride - overconfidence or even arrogance to some, but i always see these are untapped resolved of who we are but once ignited with passion not even a dictator of centuries will stand its way, we've seen it, proven it time & time again. I've always called this pessimistic behaviour as a disease or a type of sickness & contributed it largely with our our history. When you go back in time, we were never massively invaded & we were not made to convert our way of life overnight. We were in a way invaded creepingly but profusely & surely, that in time we were already invading our own & change our own to something else by exactly what the invaders intend it to be. I'm not the type you may say fanatically patriotic, the reason could not be farther from he truth. I do very well welcome the differences in technology, information & other practices that improves ones way of life, but never the culture. Our culture is what makes as "Us" - PINOY - our culture is our own. Only then when a Pinoy is in foreign country would he realized what is a Pinoy & his place in this world we call Earth. Only then his racial existence would have a definitive meaning. Until that happens, we are very much left to stand out among the crowd or blend in. The richness we have in this country is so blissful, that we are even considered as a choice destination for tourists all over the world. Sadly some pinoys are yet still to discover the beaches that's just 5-10 Km away from his home & he still dreams to swim somewhere else half a globe away. I do strongly suggest, a strong Filipino activity, be it part of the curricula or whatever based on actual culture - actual as in actually doing it - not all these boring lecture of Filipino so and so, we all heard that already, we want to act who we are not anymore listen to who we are but act on it, ride on it, climb on it, hold it, get bruised & sweat it. Iba ang Pinoy ! Angat Pinoy! Proud to be Pinoy!

Hey tombiz I like your patriotizm to our country! Keep it up! The reason why people are always pointing to the negative part of the philippines because almost all the contents of every news in the philippines are always showing the negative side! It would seem like the good side or positive side of the country has been covered by the negative side. You can't blame the people if what comes out in their mouths are always negative words for our country.

I agree with you. The sad part of this negativism is that we are even bringing it here at myLot (makes me smile at least) for the whole world to read. We have perfected the art of pointing fingers to others but we have forgotten that each and everyone of us got responsibilities of our own to fulfill. Let's not be unfair to Filipinos! Let's be fair to ourselves...

I totally agree with you. :) But I think that the Filipinos being pessimist are mere products of centuries under opression from the foreign to the local kind. ( I reckon we are under opression now, pyschologically. :-s) Anyhow, I would never trade living someplace else to living in the Philippines . It's the happiest place on earth. We live on humor, food, and great family ties. Someday, we will rise above the expectations and shock the world!

Yes, the Philippines is a beautiful country and has talented and good citizens. The sad part of it is that the President of the Republic of the Philippines, GMA to be specific, is the one who is making the country bad in the sight of the world because of graft and corruption and her unclear win in the Presidential elections and her grabbing of the top post from Erap.

Let's not talk politics here -- we always associate politics with negativity, anyway. In fairness to all, corruption (the biggest bulk in total) happen outside of the Malacanang, look at your local political scene and you will know what I mean. Erap was ousted by a big group of people -- Gloria just benefitted of that. Consider for a moment, how many now running under GO had actuaklly called for Erap's resignation? How many people went out of the street because they saw the tears of Loren Legarda or the dramatic resignation (Senate presidency) of Nene Pimentel or the hugs (and kisses?) by Drilon? And now these people are saying apology that they made a mistake of booting Erap. Hey, I think that is deception. Just showing that politicians act according to their own interest. That is why leave the politics on May 14. Mabuhay ka kapatid. I am inviting you to be my friend.

Hi there. Nice one you got here. Anyway, been reading a lot of bad things from posters on how bad our country is, and it's just refreshing to find this discussion at last. I am proud to be Filipina and nothing and nobody can change that fact. I hope that people would stop judging any country or as what the other posters said, any other race and just accept everybody as they are. People should start to understand that each country and race is different and shouldn't be put down just because they do not conform to what they believe is right. The Philippines is a beautiful country and I am proud of it.

I like your discussion. It's this kind of discussion that we need every now and then. You're right, we should be proud of our nation. I'm a Filipino working here in the U.S. I came to teach here just by accident. I didn't expect that I would be able to land a job in the U.S. I was already doing well in the Philippines as a teacher of an international school, but then this offer came after my contract expired. I always take every opportunity given me, so here I am. I truly miss the Philippines and I couldn't wait to visit home in June (summer break here). I miss the warmth of the Filipinos, the gaiety of everyday living, the entertainment scene, and the food! You're right, Filipino workers are doing well at their jobs here -- something to be really proud of. Mabuhay ang Pilipino! Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

You are absolutely correct! We are so proud of all your accomplishments there in the USA. Just showing one of the most important beautiful resources we have -- our people. Filipinos wherever they go, will always miss the Philippines -- we have many traits all our own. Mabuhay ka kapatid Pinoy!

One positive side? You can be unemployed and there is a family you can depend on to take care of you and your needs while you are financially broke.

I'm not from the Phillipines and have never had the opportunity to visit there (unfortunately) but I have known several Philipinos. I have always found them to be very gracious, thoughtful people with a great sense of humor. Most of the ones I met were in the medical field, great nurses!

The Filipino people are indeed very talented and good people. I have been outside the Philippines for 5 years now and I am proud to say that Filipinos are not only talented, we are always ready to give a helping hand. We are courteous and respectful and I'm proud of the way we show respect to our elders by the "mano". When I see kids doing this even if they did not grew up in the Philippines, I feel that we are contributing to show the world that we have good sets of values.

We cannot blame those people who commented negatively in our country because after all they are true and the reality. But let us discuss what are the positive side of our country. Negatively, we are one the poor countries in the world but we SURVIVE. We our listed as one of the top populated in the world but we always find ways to feed our families and we STRIVE. We are suffering for pain, hunger, but still we are one of the HAPPIEST people in the world. We can only count in our fingers the medals and talents of the filipino people but they are the most admired one. Filipinos are hard-headed but has a golden heart of hospitality that you can never find in any place in the world. That is why, I love being negative co'z along with that negative is our great path to be positive.

I do not know Philippines that much, but I have heard so much about them. We should not judge just by the remarks of a few, for people are biased and unjust while giving comments. Every race, every country had its beauty and charm. Of the philippines, people are charming and goodlooking ( take yourself for example ), they are good mannered ( take yourself as an example again ) and they are very good in english ( as you already mentioned ). And it is made up of islands!! what more can one ask for?!

Puerto Galera - Dive Sites
I just came from a three day vacation in Puerto Galera. We've got the best exotic beaches in the world. We've got the most hospitable people. I really enjoyed our trip..., the people were really nice and accommodating. I think what our country needs is PRIDE, yes the sin! Let's be proud of what we are and never look down at are fellow countrymen.

Finally a thread about talking about the Philippines in a positive light! I have gotten tired of all the negative things people say ( I won't deny that I talk about the Philippines quite negatively too because maybe my father always cursing adds to the problem) so it's nice to have a positive thread here. I find the Philippines one of the most beautiful tropical countries in the world! I still remember the time I went to Boracay and while watching the view outside right after we left manila, i saw the expanse of black buildings (manila) is really just a small land of civilization. Philippines still has a lot of beautiful locations left. Filipinos are also very hospitable and creative. These are what I can say about the Philippines
