How do you think this drug effects the brains of young children

I know someone that has been on this drug since they were six years old. They are now twelve years old. The effect on their brain has caused quite a lot of paranoid (excuse the spelling please) delusions over the years. Their parents are now taking them off this drug. Do you think this is a good idea.

Ritalin has no residual effects. My daughter was on it for years and has had no problems.

No it is not addictive. Ritalin works differently on people who are not ADD or ADHD. If you aren't either one you shouldn't take it.

The problems with ritalin are from not giving the right dosage. That is not to say that some don't have reactions. The question is were these people who had reactions actually suffering from ADD/ADHD.
No, the key word is not my daughter. I just happen to have some experience with the medication. Unlike some people who make assumptions without checking out the facts.

The only thing that you should look for or monitor the child who taking ritalin is their growth retardation.

I have been on Ritalin since I was in 3rd grade, and it has worked fine for me. It is NOT for everyone, though! If it seems like a doctor or psychiatrist is too quick to prescribe it, please get a second opinion. Too often it is prescribed without fully diagnosing a child to make sure that it is the correct route to treat anything.
