Which book could you just not get into?

Has there ever been a famous or popular book that you expected to love, but found yourself having trouble really getting into?
I've just started reading Jane Eyre, and I've heard so many great things about it, but so far, it has yet to grab me. I'm hoping I'll enjoy it more soon!

I agree I could not get into "Jane Eyre". It was just not something I cared for. I felt that way with "The Great Gadsby" as well. It was an ok book but not what I was expecting at all.
I could not get into the books for "The Lord of the Rings". I read "The Hobbit" without a problem and loved it but when it came to "The Lord Of The Rings" I just had trouble getting into it. I don't know, maybe it was because my brother kept going on and on about it but I couldn't connect with the characters and the plot. I will admit I was in 6th grade at the time and that might be part of it, haven't tried since but maybe I will now that I'm older.

The prologue to LOTR is really hard to get through!
I read the books after having seen the movies, and although I usually prefer to do it the other way around, I'm glad I did it this way. There were a few times in the books that I could only figure out what was going on because of having seen the movies. They're really great stories, but it's easy to get lost in the language if you don't keep up!

There have been quite a few, for me, actually. I'm a very impatient reader, so I don't want to spend more than half the book on lengthy descriptions, back stories, or other things that I personally find boring. There has to be some kind of action, very early on, in order to pull me in efficiently.
So, I've had trouble getting in to: The Vampire Lestat; The Scarlet Letter; and Little Women, to name a few. I have never tried to tackle Jane Eyre. I know that it is a classic, and there has to be a reason for that. Unfortunately, it just struck me as the kind of book I wouldn't enjoy. I know myself, and I'm pretty sure I would find it boring. (No offense to any of the many fans of the books I've mentioned. Just my opinion.)

I couldn't get into The Davinci Code. The movie was great but I just couldn't get into the book at all!

I actually had the same experience with the book Jane Eyre, but then again at the time I tried to read it I was only like 12 years old, so that could've played a big part in why I didn't like it! I just didnt' understand it! Other than that, those romance novels..kind of like Harlequin only not, don't really get me too interested. I do love chick lit books however.

I couldn't get into the Lord of the Rings series. I remember reading the Hobbit when I was young and liking it a little, but I can't even watch the movies because I just find the whole concept very boring. I like fantasy but for some reason I just can't get into the books.

Catch 22. I liked what I read of it, but I just couldn't push through to the finish. I found LOTR equally daunting, but I managed to finish it with a sense for the man behind the legend.

I too have had enormous problems with The Lord of the Rings.
I found it just too hard to get in to, and I just didn't persevere with it.
I have never managed to read the DaVinci code, but that was because I didn't particularly find the style of the book easy to read - in my opinion it wasn't that well written.
To be honest I guess I arrely start a book that I don't think I'll like - I tend to go on recomendations from family, friends or reading groups rather than the blurb on teh backs of the books.

It took me five years to finish Great Expectations. And now I'm on my third year with Crime and Punishment. Some novels I can finish in a flash, but there are just some that are hard to get through. The thing with me is just that I never give up. Once I start with a book, I finish it.
