OK. I would like to explain my situation a little before I just make a bunch of statements, and no one knows what I am talking about...lol First of all I have degenerative disc disease, and have had it since I have been 20. Also in March I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. When I first started having symptoms in December, it was really scary. I could not move my hands, turn my car key, and I could hardly walk. Since then I know how much my weight has in impact on both of these conditions. I have been up and down on weight all my life. When I injured my back in 2000, which led to the discovery of the disc disease I was on a lot of steroids. At that time, I was at a pretty good weight, but with all the meds I gained a lot. Since I have been up and down. I have tried a lot of things...and nothing seems to work. Now to complicate matters I cannot do a whole lot of physical exercise...but I can and do walk a lot. I also drink A LOT of water. I have been on steroids for the past4 months and am now just coming off of them. I hope to not go back on them. My doctor asked me if I wanted to consider a gastric bypass, and I said yes I would. I have looked into it for some time now. I was sent info from the Cleveland Clinic a couple weeks ago. And as excited as I am about loosing weight, I am now also scared to death. I really want to give me doing it on my own one more try. I just wondered if anyone had any suggestions. My plan is to eat mainly fruits and veggies, continue to drink water...and walk 2 miles every other day. I take multi vitamins right now...I have done weight watchers, and Jenny Craig, and taken almost everything over the counter..But ANYTHING anyone has to share I would appreciate. I am not lazy, I do sit around and eat all day...most people who know me cannot believe I am the size I am because I dont overeat...I have had my thyroid checked too, and all is ok...so I am open to whatever...Thanks for reading.

I don't think any diets ever really worked for me..so I just decided to just limit the sugar and things like junk..when I do eat, stay away from fried foods and most of all make sure my portions aren't too big..I also tried not eating after 8p.m. and thats worked..

I try those things as well. If I can I also try to avoid eating after 7. But sometimes my hobbies, actvities, etc dont allow for it....but I will just have to put my mind to it. Thanks for responding. :)

I agree. Your best chance of loosing weight safely and permanently is to adopt a healthy eating habit and to exercise regularly.
I too have struggles with my weight. I've gained and lost a lot of weight since I was 14. The 2 most successful plans for me were Nutri System and the Dr. Phil book. I can no longer afford the Nutri System plan though. What I found with Dr. Phil's program is that it is based on the principles I learned in home economics class, each meal must consist of items from the 5 food groups.
I'm now on my millionth get healthy plan but what I've found is that I have to think too much about food. I say that because since about March of '06 I've lost interest in food so its a real chore to take time to buy and prepare meals. I don't mention this to encourage this behavior, I mention it so that if that were the case with you that you should abandon it and follow a healthy eating plan.

Well, first of all, it's good that you want to try to lose weight. That's a big step there, wanting to lose it. Steroids are notorious for weight gain. So, getting off of them, if possible, would probably help you a great deal.
It sounds like you are doing the right things with your diet. But, I hate to say it, diet doesn't really work really well without exercise. So, I know that's hard for you. I'm glad that you are walking. If you can, try to increase it a little every few days or so. If you can't walk, try something you can do while sitting or laying down. Just keep moving.
Good luck and I sure hope you feel better and the pain goes away completely.

When I was in highschool, I am so obese (195 pounds) and got a high blood pressure, but when I reach college, I decided to lose weight. The diet that works for me was "After 6", After 6pm, I am not gonna eat any food, just water... and I started playing basketball, I lose weight. when I reach my junior year in College, I was able to join Cheerleading.
I also substitute junk food with fruits (bananas, pineapples, apples, prunes are my favorite).

It's up to the person if he/she wanna lose weight... If there's a will, there's a way. I suggest not to take Diet pills, because there is a case here in the Philippines, a daughter of a local Actor got her life 50/50 and almost die, good thing she survived. Diet pills can be dangerous.

hmmm, i agree with some who said that diet is only a little step in tru;y losing weight. exercising is another important part. for your case you can try water exercises, that way you don't put too much weight in your joints because the buoyancy in the water takes a portion of that away. exercising in water reduces the risk for injury and pain for arthritic people, while allowing them to lose weight. ;)

I feel so much for you, I was once so sick I couldn't stand up anymore. Never mind my case, I am well enough now to work. In fact I have made it my life's mission to help others who are ill even if I may not be rich. This is my way of thanking the Lord for giving me a second chance at life. Consider me an older brother or friend. You are still blessed that you can exercise, you are still doing something for yourself.
I was so reliant on Doctors and their synthetic Medicines. Please note that I have a lot of respect for Doctors. I got well when as many have discovered, they went by natural means. Look for a Naturopathic Doctor, search for sites on Alternative Medicine, please look for products such as Transfer Factor by a company called 4LIFE, and Goji by a company called Freelife. Send me an email and I will give you a lot more details. In fact I am now so much into this that I had enrolled myself and graduated from a Degree in Alternative Medicine and am now doin advanced studies in the same school. May God Bless You and Get you well.
