What do you call your spouse in front of your children?

I didn't think about it too much and now my 1 1/2 year old is screaming his fathers name instead of "daddy". At first we laughed, but that just made it even worse. I'm not sure, but he might be calling me "hun". I'm trying to call my husband daddy in front of him, but it's kind of weird. How about you?

I will probably still call him 'Jess' or 'baby' which are the only two things I ever call him now! He has told me he doesn't want to go by 'Dad' as he feels more like a 'Poppa', so I'll keep that in mind once our son is old enough to learn words.

my hubby also wanted to be called poppa, but that's what the grandpa's call themselves, that'd be confusing!

If I'm talking to my son, I always refer to my husband as daddy. I always say things like "Daddy's home!" or "Give that to Daddy." But then again, I started out referring to myself in third person a lot until he really started saying Mommy. If I'm talking to my husband, I still use his name, even if the baby is sitting right there. He knows Daddy has another name besides just Daddy.

I call my husband Hon/Honey. But when I am dealing with my toddler, I told her go see Papa...or I want you to give this to Papa. So she very well know who Papa is. The funny thing is that, if my husband doesn't answer to her right away...she calls him Honey. I guess she got the idea that if I will call my husband, he would answer right away. And if my husband doesn't answer to our toddler's call of Papa after several attempts, she would go..."Honeyyyy, I am calling you.." lol

I think it's cute and I don't think you really have anything to worry about. He will call him dad when he gets older. I have four kids and they never did that at your sons age, they always called him dad, but when they got older and wanted to have a bit of fun, they would call him by his name.

I usually call him dada or by his name. I am going to keep this in mind as my daughter gets older.

I call my husband by his name or else hun. It is funny that you write this because I babysit for a 2 yr old and he calles his father dada Pete. I think that this is weird because it sounds like he has 2 fathers, but it is because he has heard others call his dad Pete.

It is not the solution to call your hubby "daddy"in front of your son.You are a mother and it is your responsibility to teach your child what to say to whom.Children are much more smart then we think.Just try to make him understand that "he is your daddy and you will call him daddy and mamma call him ___".I am sure your son will soon understand it.My daughter too used to says my husband name but know she uderstands it completely, she is just 2 years old.

I usually call my boyfriend 'babe' or 'hon' when talking to him, whether our son is there or not. When referring to him to our son, I usually call him 'daddy'. Our son, who will be three at the end of the month, knows our names and can say them, but he somehow knows that he is supposed to call us 'mommy' and 'daddy'.
