Someplace to be Flying is a book that I received for my 21st birthday, from my parents. They kept asking me what I wanted for my birthday, and all I really wanted was books. Mom and Dad gave me a dollar amount, and asked me to choose the books that I wanted.
I had only been briefly introduced to the works of Charles De Lint before, but enjoyed his writing very much, so I picked this one up off the shelf. What a wonderful choice, and I cannot believe it was by chance alone!
This book is INCREDIBLE. I don't want to say too much about it, because I would love for more people to find and read it, but the magic that Charles De Lint manages to weave with this story is just amazing. I couldn't put it down. People I have recommended it to have made comments after reading it, that they "understand more about who I am" or "feel closer to me for reading it" which is something I find a little strange, but reading this book was a lot like looking into the mirror for me.
I know that sounds weird, but I think I learned a lot about myself from this book, and now I read it once per year because I don't ever want to lose that feeling.
