the word hero was something that i always regarded as special now i see it in the newspapers today regarding our sailors and marines who are heroes without firing a shot so it would appear that we have lost a word for the dictionary hero should read one who surrenders willingly without fighting back £1000,000 for beinf a coward goood money if you can get it

I somewhat agree with you, an act like that shouldn't be called hero. But if youare given the chance to be on their seat will you do it?
I remember a couple of months ago, my friend received a sum of money from an airline due to the plane that he was in was forced to land without landing gear. The amount was quite big, but given the fact, I'll not want to be in his position, because you will never know what will happen..:-)
