this happened to me yesterday, it had a large amount of money in, however it had a driving licence in it, with the owners name and address,
am i a bad person for actually having a moral arguement with myself on whether or not to return the purse.
I would consider myself a kind caring person, however i battled with myself for hours on end about what to do.
£150 would of come in very very handy, who wouldnt turn it down, however i also felt for the other person and thought about when it had happened to me before, in the end i was overcome with guilt i returned it, and the lady gave me £20 for been so honest,
i think that actually hurt the most!! i felt even guiltier after that!
what would you have done, and does it make me a bad person for thinking about keeping it, in a way i suppose its theft!!!

It is often a very difficult moral choice to make. On the one hand, I am an honest person who cares, on the other hand I am deperately broke right now and need every penny I can get. It certainly doesn't make you a bad person for thinking long and hard about the problem before coming to the solution. There are many people who think nothing of stabbing someone in the street to rob them of a few pounds. For what it's worth hun, you did the right thing and I guess I would do the same.

thank you, it makes me feel slightly better knowing that i am probably part of a majority, i would imagine very few people, would actually not even think twice about giving it back(im sure there are some of you, im not doubting that)
i still keep thinking now what i could of done with the cash
i suppose im best off just putting it down to experience and forgetting about it
its like taking candy from a baby in a way
lol!

It would make you a bad person if you kept the money, put it in your bath tub and rolled around in it like a kitten on a carpet.
The fact that the lady gave you something back means you haven't lost everything. So there's that.
Thinking whether you should return the money or not doesn't make you a bad person. It makes you a vulnerable human being.

I don't believe this makes you a bad person . You did the right thing and I believe we all have thoughts about what we should do and what we shouldn't do at times in our lives . Just because you thought about it , you didn't act on this and you did what you knew was the right thing to do .
I would have returned it also but it is true that it would be a lot of money and who wouldn't wonder what it would be like to keep it , but the right thing to do is to give it back , and that is what I would have done also .
