A friend gave me "The Songcatcher"by Sharyn McCrumb. It is not a love story. It is a story about a folk song how the song was passed from one generation to another. The book does some skipping around but is easy to follow. I would not have bought it but it was given to me. I am 3/4 the way though it.
I also love Barbara Taylor Braford, or Nora Roberts.

I recommend Piers Anthony. He likes to play games with words, and is a very interesting fantasy author.

Have you read the Everworld series by K.A. Applegate? They are in the children section of our library but I think they are too deep and dark for children. The different books are written from the perspective of each of the main characters. They are a great Fantasy mythology mixture and very well written.

The Harry Potter series is the best! And the final book is coming very soon :)
Another fantasy series I recommend is Magician by Raymond E Feist, and its many sequels.
The first 3 books of the series are the best! Intelligent and gripping.

If you want a story that is Fantasy with a romantic flavor, try Stephen R. Donaldson's pair of books "The Mirror of Her Dreams" and "A Man Rides Through". It's really one book split into two volumes, so get both at once or you'll be in a cliffhanger situation!
You can see more about them here: http://www.amazon.com/Mirror-Her-Dreams-Mordants-Need/dp/0345346971

Terry Goodkins's Sword of Truth series is fantasy of the highest caliber. The Book of the New Sun, by Gene Wolfe is a good Sci-Fi/Fantasy mix. The Xanth novels of Piers Anthony are entertaining. Most fantasy is good, if you're in the mood for it. Romance, however, I know nothing about.

I would recommend Stephen King's Dark Tower series if you're into fantasy. Also, anything by Mercedes Lackey.

Try something by George Orwell, "Animal Farm" if you want something easy, or "1984" for a little challenge.
