I have three children home for 10 days for spring break. I have done crafts with them, we went to the park by our house, we played video games, baked a cake for fun, organized their rooms and went to the zoo last week on friday. After doing all of this mommy is pretty tired by now and as I am laying on the couch relaxing, they all come up to me and say "mom we are bored what can we do?" There is till another week to go! What is everyone else doing with the kids during spring break?

We made our own "summer school". I have 3 kids ages 6, 7, and 9. Their cousins aged 9 and 10, join in once in a while.
We do the following in a sort of structured way, almost everyday:
1. Art - from simple stick drawings to the color wheel to blind contour drawing
2. Vocabulary - I take their books and choose 3 words. They look through a dictionary or thesaurus for the meaning and construct 1 sentence per word.
3. Reading - the kids are into chapter books now, so for 20-30 minutes a day, they have reading time.
4. Yoga - we do yoga as a family twice a week.
we're going to start doing Math classes soon.
a good source for art classes is www.kinderart.com

Thank you, thank you, thank you. You have a great idea there. That is what the kids are missing - The stucture of school and the daily routine. I have many ideas already and the link was so helpful. Tomorrow we will start our "school" and not only will they learn they will also be occupied.

I do do much with my kids because they are all different ages and all like to do different things. The one thing I have noticed since I became a parent is after Christmas they seem to get nothing but holidays and PA days right till summer every month which makes me think how do they learn with so many breaks in between learning. Anyways usually summer time is the big family thing for us.
