Hello all ..
As mylot members increase in a great way, with all those people coming from any part of this world, with thier different languages .. dont you think that if myLot starts accepting languages other than english will lead to an increament in the members' numbers ..
a lot of other sites accept multi-languages particpations ... as many people may find it hard to express their thoughts and feelings with languages other than their mother tounges ..
i remember my first participation in myLot was in arabic, which later was deleted by the site admins ...

As english is the most common internet language I have to disagree with you. I think it should stay just english. If it became multi lingual what would those who can only speak english do when it came to replying to discussions? Especially as everyone on mylot speaks english. If not fluently then they do. They can understand what the english speaking world is saying and they can reply. If those who spoke - like you arabic and english - started posting arabic discussions half if not all the mylot community would not understand and would not be able to earn their 50cents a day or whatever it is that they earn.

i know that when we write with language other than english it will be hard for others to understand and participate , but some times some ideas can't be expressed with other languages , and if they weren't puplished you ( english readers ) wont understand it ...
at both sides it wont be understood to you , but some people might recive that idea

I forgot to add that if you searched you may find sites that accept other languages? maybe mylot COULD create a tag for those who are multi lingual. But i still think for those who only speak one language it will decrease their chances of making anything even friends on mylot?? Im not having a go either. Just what I think

No it should not be a multilanguage website. It should be universal so it should be in english only. Mylot does not require its member to be a genius in english grammer so anybody who posses basic english can actively take part in it.

Having a section here in myLot for multilanguage or non-English discussions would certainly benefit those international members like me who doesn't have the advantage of English being their primary language so I hope the myLot administration would consider the idea.
There are times when I am not able to post because I'm at a loss as how to write my response in a way that would really convey my exact thoughts. Being able to speak in your own language would certainly be an advantage as you can more clearly express your thoughts and get your points across with it.

First of all English is the common language when you are entering the internet-world. So, if you dont understand the English language you can not do that much on the internet. So you want to learn and understand English. That benefits us all. Second, if there were discussions put up in another language you create some groups among the mylot community. Thats something that is not benifially for mylot in general. Because of groups, people might feel left out of it. So you would loose those members that "dont fit in". Third, if there is a possibility of other languages spoken, who does the upper control work on my lot than? Now, in English, its clear for everyone what the discussions are all about. If there were for example arabic discussions (like you wrote yourself in arabic), there wouldnt be an easy mechanism of controlling the content here on mylot. Maybe the arabic group can discuss, in the arabic language, criminal ideas or terroristic ideas. I am definitely sure mylot dont want to get those people involved here in our community.
Fourth, if you wont allow such a group as arabic posters, you can not allow spanish posters or greek posters or italien posters too. You must treat everyone in the same way.
Five, so its English. Thats fine. If you can not express yourself clearly in the English language, and you want that, you can take a course. Good education for you, you can benefit from that in other areas as well.
Happy Postings!

I think English should still be used in Mylot because it is a universal language that will allow all the members to respond to any discussion. I am a Filipino and I speak Filipino so I am not being biased with my answer. It's just that if Mylot accepts other language in the discussions, some discussions will probably be solely for those who speak that same language so there might be some grouping created. Also Mylot will not be able to keep track if there are any topics or words that are not appropriate to use.

I dont' think mylot become a multilanguage website, as it will get divided and become group of people, here atleast all people are able to using the same universal language and people who post this new discussions get a wider variety of responses, dividing mylot into multilanguage will reduce the variety of responses.

well i would personally not like that to happen because as you see there are people from all over the world here and if they could converse in the language from their country then there will be an increase in users but the number of responses to discussions will reduce drastically, people tending to reply only to the discussions from their own languages and there will not be a lot of interaction between the users which is the main reason for this website for different people from different places, culture and creed to get to know each other.

I wouldn't mind if you could specify that you only wanted to see discussions that were in English. I have nothing against other languages, but it's hard enough to find discussions to reply to without having to sift through the ones in foreign languages. It would just be a tower of babel. If everybody could post in whatever language they wanted to, I'd quit the site. There are practical reasons for setting one language as the official language.

myLot should entertain English only, at least for the time being. We cannot provide facilities to post in so many languages. The present system is better. If the strength of any single other language speaking people attains a considerable level this could be considered. From the stats given in the site most members are from India. But these Indians speak various languages. Many of them cannot read or write Hindi which is the largely spoken language in India. Therefore introducing other language facilities at this situation will not produce the desired result. English is universally accepted as a link language. Hence let the present arrangement continue.

Maybe if mylot becomes very popular with many people all over the World, it could have seperate areas for people to discuss things in different languages (pages like mylot.cn etc).
At the moment, mylot is not big enough to do that and needs to focus its resources on just one language, as it is an American site and also because the internet is based on the (American-)English language - it makes sense that mylot is only in English.

No I don't think so. Although that I wish I could type in Bulgarian, English is not a difficulty for me. Besides I wouldsn't be interested in discussions in a language I don't understand. Mylot can become a total mix of tongues and it wouldn't have the same success as now. I understand that there are people who can't write very well in English, but this shouldn't be a reson.

I guess there will be an increase in the members if myLot will be a multilanguage website. However, it will defeat the purpose of interaction since most of the members will tend to isolate themselves in their own language. People who can't understand that language will not be able to participate in the discussions there. Since most people using the Internet can communicate in English (correct grammar is not really mandatory if you can get you point across, I guess), I guess this will continue to be an English site, unless a clamor for one or more languages is heard by the administrators.

Unless they have a way of keeping track of what every message in a different language is about a multilanguage site might be very hard to keep on top of. Using different languages can be misused in forums to post things that wouldnt be allowed. As an ex monitor in different forums have had experiences in this.

I know how hard it is to participate in an enlgish language forums if you are not good at it. But I think mylot is better this way cause if other language will be accepted to this site then there could be a group by group discussion instead of a whole conversation witht the whole commmunity. Plus I love the fact that we can learn so much about enlgish language in this forum cause most users here are good at it and lots of them are real writers.

While I can appreciate the desire for a multi-lingual site, I feel it would cause more problems than it would help. English is the language of commerce, and also the second most spoken language after Chinese. By keeping this as an English speaking site, it has helped loads of people with their English language and can only encourage others to join in

Yes, I think that a multilingual Mylot is much better. Maybe keeping parts with different languages separate. It would be very hard to follow discussions if posts written in different languages are all mixed up. the problem seems to be the moderation of discussions written in other languages.

While the concept is a sound one, I don't think it would be right for mylot.
English is universal, and so many people from different countries do speak it, although I understand that some of them are not so good at it.
However, if Mylot were to create a tag for non English Speaking people, I think there would be people creating discussions in their own language only, and there would be a huge split, resulting in less discussions and responses on both sides of the coin.
