I have a 20 month, a 4 year old, and a 6 year old and we go on out of town trips maybe once a month. Sometimes we fly and they seem to behave as long as the flight isn't over 2 hours. Most of the time we drive and it really helps that we have a DVD player in our van. But as you mention, it's really nice to spend quality time with the kids because they grow up so quickly.

I usually take them away on out of town trips a couple times a yr...unfortunately my husband works far too much so he stays home but the kids and I go to Canada once a yr and Ohio as often as possible....this yr I'd like to take them to their grandparents up north (Canada), Ohio and California in the summer then HOPEFULLY to Jamaica in the winter (my husband would go on that trip with us)

We live in a small country town and we do alot of driving to different towns, for example when my df has cricket or football it is almost always in a different town, our major shops are in a different town although it is only 15 minutes away its a different town, and every school holidays we do a train trip to the city and stay with family that is about 4 hours away, We have the beach at the end of our street so we dont have to travel for that, amusements parks we normally drive around 45 minutes and there is a big coastal town with lots of things to do go karts, mini golf, boat rides and so forth.

I live in Singapore.... So every once in awhile we would drive up to Malaysia to either shop, eat or just have some fun with the children. For us, family time is very important to keep our bond stronger. Sometimes during the school holidays, we would take short vacations to the nearby countries too.

As a stay-at-home mom, I really have the luxury of being able to take the children out of town. We live in an urban area though, were all the different towns are stuck together so allthough the mall, the beach, the park and the playground are all located in different towns, it does not really feel as if I am taking them out of town.
