Double standard is defined as "any code or set of priciples containing different provisions for one group of people than for another". Off course concept of double standard comes when one first defines a standard, so when one goes against one's own defined standard, it would be called double standard. In your view, what constitute a double standard? is it believing and stating something and doing agaist it or is it doing something as standard with one entity and otherwise with another?

I think it is when on group of people get treated diffirently than another group of people, when they should both be treated the same when it comes to the thing you are setting a standard about. Such as there is a double standard that it's ok for women to wear men's clothing, but it's not ok for men to wear women's clothing. Where did that even start? seriously?

Hello icee22, Welcome to mylot. I hope that you will enjoy your stay here!:-) You are certainly right about different treatment as a reason of double standard. Doesn't it look like some things are only one directional? You raise an interesting question and I don't think that I have proper answer to that! Maybe because Men's clothes are plain and flexible while women's clothes are profile specific? what do you think? Thanks for sharing with us!:-)

Till date I believe that husband and wife are integral part of each other and though they may live like a coin, never joining each other, yet they are unseparable. I wish you a life full of happiness.

I think it is the latter. But if you go against your own standard for yourself because you have a different standard for others, that's the same thing. For instance my friend thinks it is o.k. for her to make jokes about other people but thinks other people shouldn't make jokes about her. That's a double standard. Double standards exist nearly everywhere. One group thinks they are right and others are wrong, even when there isn't really a right and wrong in the matter. It is considered o.k. by one group to oppose abortion enough to kill the doctor who does abortions. Killing fetus is wrong but killing doctors is right? That's an extreme example, but it makes the point. I imagine if we each examined our own lives very closely we could find our own double standards. It was o.k. for me to marry at age nineteen but I sure don't want my children to marry that young. Things like that. And I won't even start on examples in government!!!

Thanks for you opinion and i do appreciete your views in this regard specially the thing that we all have double standards to some extent in our own lives. it's only by scrutiny and thinking than we can understand them and make corrections.
