hi,i think windows xp will be the best operating system for you, as it has got simplicity and most of the people around you are familiar with it,this will help you when you are having some trouble with computer. In case of server os and windows vista, people are not much familiar with the working if you get some problem there YOU have to solve it.which is quite difficult for you as as you say you are new to the computers.
you mention you are in 12th grade ,i think you are from india, then you know that in india linux is not a popular os neither it is easy for newbees.
choice is yours!

THe first thing you might need to consider is which license OS do you have? if you plan to buy a new license ,then you can ignore the my question above. For me, i also just buy a new computer, and installed with Win XP. I think for the moment, don't go for Win VIsta, because of less software/game compatible. And somemore ,you dont need to worry on the device drivers if you use Win XP. ITs suitable for home user, game user, office user.
