Have you ever done something that you deeply regret and can't take back?

When I was a teenager, I had a friend that had three holes in her heart and was sick quite a lot. Once, she was sick and had missed several days of school and I was felling "peckish" as teenagers are wont to do. A mutual friend of our came to me and told me that she had heard that our friend had died and my response was flip. I said that there was no way she had died because she was too stubborn to die. The next morning I got a phone call telling me that she was, in fact, dead. I never quite forgave myself for being so flip and self absorbed. Have you ever had a similar experience?
