Hello kk_active2004! Welcome to mylot. I am Angel and I have been a student before too. Anyways, being a student is really hard because there are a lot of things to be done, lessons to be learned and deadlines to beat. It's really exhausting that's why you'll need to learn how to manage your time so that there will be time left for enjoyment or recreation every once in a while. I don't think that doing all hard work without having some fun in between is not healthy. You also need to refresh your mind once in a while, get away from all the pressures so that you'll have the energy to face them again when you're back. Good luck with your studies and take it easy.

You don't ...You take what you can get and pay your dues. You will have plenty of time once you are out of school for going out and having a good time. Just think about the stories you will be able to tell later on in life and how proud you will be that you Worked you way through college. It will only get better once out of school

well i agree with you that being a student is difficult and also very hectic..
But it is also fun.. When we finish our college life we are out in the open world.. the things that we do in college cant be done there.. Performance of students depends on how they utilise their time ...

Welcome to Mylot my dear kk active ! As you said I am not a student anymore, but once upon a time I too was a student! I have done my post graduation in Veterinary Science in Animal Genetics and breeding in 1985 and presently I am working with one of the reputed Stud Farms in India in the capacity of Senior Stud Vet, where we breed Thoroughbreds for the purpose of Racing!
Well if I say anything , the people from your generation will feel that the oldies they always talk like that! In spite of that let me tell you that I was a brilliant student during my time! Oh yes, let me tell you I am from the first batch of 10+2 pattern Maharashtra Board! That was the time when we were not having proper books available for us as our batch was the first one! It was OK in the Xth Standard but in XII standard we had to select the text books of our own from the private authors, since our batch was the first one no body really had any idea about the books which one was better and which one was not, though we had very little choice with us to select from! The most pathetic part was the syllabus was received by us in the month of December just before three months of our final examination! We never knew what would be the pattern of examination, we were told something today to change it next day! We were subjected to too much of mental strain!
Guides, sample papers were unheard then and going for tut ions used to a taboo, then! Only dull students and duffers used to take tuitions, we were solely dependent on our class notes! In spite of all these setbacks I manged to pass with good marks and missed my seat in Medical college by 1 mark! Since my father never wanted to send me out of the City for economical reasons I had to settle down to do my Veterinary science!
This course is really a very tough course, it deals with Anatomy, physiology, Biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, Parasitology, Medicine, Surgery apart from Gynaecology, Nutrition and Genetics and Breeding! There are many other minor subjects we are supposed to attend and pass! We had a semester pattern where we were appearing for 42 exams within a span of 4 and half months , such 8 semesters we had. Here also we were solely dependent on our class notes, which we used to take in fast running writing as the professors used to deliver the lecture and then after going home we used to fair them! Purchasing a Veterinary Text book was and still today it is very costly affair, so library and the class notes were our sole resources!
Here also in college I was a merit student and I manged to get Scholarship from the university from First year of My under graduation to final year of my Post graduation!
I have given this much of description, to just tell you that in spite of all these set backs I was a good student and now coming to my extra academic activities I would like to tell you that I was an active member of our College Orchestra and we won three consecutive years as the best team and I personally won Best Instrumental Player for playing my Electric Hawaiian Guitar! I was Captain of my Cultural team also !
I used to write a weekly column in Local English Daily
and I used to make some good pocket money out of it along with name and fame! I used to publish some Cartoons in another Local English News Paper ! I was very keen on playing Mouth organ and Flute and I was always surrounded by my friends and we used to have a nice time full of fun and frolic between the two periods when we used to have some break!
I learnt the art of Ventriloquism when I was in College and prepared my own dummy and participated in various Open Competitions to win several awards.{Today I have given more than thousand shows of Ventriloquism all over the country!)
Motor Cycles were never heard of by college students then! Boys from very rich families used to come to college on mopeds and Cycles used to be the great Luxury and I managed get one from my earnings which was a sports type! hit of the time!
Now coming to the concluding part, in spite of going to College and coming back which was about 19 Km from my place and my college was situated on a Hill, I used to take tuitions of Xth Standard students for an hour and after this batch I used to take tuitions for XII th class students for another one hour! After that IO used to spend some time for relaxing myself! Then after that studying till late night to get up early in the morning for the College!
Let me tell you that today also though I am a Biology student I can solve the CBSC pattern XII standard Maths quite conveniently, if I am given sufficient time to refer the chapter once!
Now what I mean to say is...when under such hard pressed conditions, without having any luxuries and support in the form of ready made books or financial aids , which today's students they do have , when we could excel and had ample of time to enjoy ourselves , I am really surprised why today's generation is cribbing about the shortage of time and stressful life? Where we are going wrong? Is the whole perception getting changed or hardworking which was a primary asset of a student during our time has taken a back bench and students are aspiring success with short cuts?
Could you kindly answer me where the things are going wrong? I am having my son studying in III rd year Engineering and he is also having the same opinion as of yours! Thanks for initiating such a nice topic and given me an opportunity to open up myself! May God bless You!

I agree a student has to slog a lot to write the exams well. But there is a price for everything. If you want to come up in life, this is the age you HAVE to study well keeping aside other interests. Further if you study systematically from the beginning, I am sure you can relax for sometime in between and spend that time for your hobbies, entertainment etc.

I agree a student's life is very busy and tied up. But friend, if you want to achieve something, you have to give something. In this case you are giving your precious time and entertainment. But this is temporary. Once you are settled and finished your education, you are free. Then life long you can enjoy is it not? After all you are getting good education and that will help you to get good career for life long. Do'nt you think your sacrifice is worth it?

Yes, studying is really a hard work. It is a busy if you want it to be. you also need to budget your time. You have to relax. Me, there were times that i enjoy going to school. It was because of my professor who is so funny. I hope other teachers will inject humor while teaching to keep their students lively and enthusiastic.
