I would recommend not to upgrade to vista..I'm downgrading from vista to XP because of incompatibilities...if i have XP on my dual core processor, it would be faster but it's running as a normal sing core because of high graphics requirements of vista...

Hey buddy seems like you have a valid question and a lot of them have actually given you answers that suit the question. I would actually second one of the responses here which tells you about the optimum requirements rather than the minimum. 1.A processor at least faster than 800 GHz(Minimum) but recommended would be 1GHz or more for best performance. 2.RAM 512 MB(Minimum)/2 GB(Recommended) 3.Direct X 9.0 capable GPU(Graphics Processing Unit) with Hardware Pixel Shader 2.0 and WDDM(Windows Display Driver Model) Support. 4.Graphics memory(VRAM) of 128 MB(Minimum)/ 512 MB(Optimum). Note that, if you have a RAM of 2 GB then 128 MB is automatically shared for your VRAm and a seperate allocation is not necessary. 5. HDD Capacity of 40 GB(Minimum)/ 80 GB(Optimum). 6. HDD free memory of 15 GB. This is fixed as the memory required for the installation is 15 GB. 7. A DVD-RW either integrated or external. Now these are the requirements to run Vista to the fullest. In case you want to check if your computer fits the minimum requirements for Vista then all that you have to do is go to the microsoft website and search for Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor and download the file. Once the file is downloaded jjust run this file and it will check if your computer has all the minimum requirements to install Vista on it. Remember that Upgrade Advisor tests everything on your comp and takes a hell of a lot of time in giving a result. So don't feel that it has frozen and restart the comp. And this advisor does not give you any requirements or any special features but only checks for compatibility. Try this, check if you can get the recommended hardware components and then install the OS for best results. ALL THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The low end version of Vista will need a speed of at least 800MHz, 512MB of system memory and a graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable. The Aero ready one will need a 1GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor, 1GB of system memory, 128MB of graphics memory, 40GB of hard drive capacity with 15GB free space, a DVD-ROM drive, audio output capabilities and Internet access. It will also need a DirectX 9 class graphics processor that supports a Windows Display Driver Model Driver, Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware and 32 bits per pixel. Windows Vista Premium Ready needs to have 64MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor less than 1,310,720 pixels; 128MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor at resolutions from 1,310,720 to 2,304,000 pixels; or 256MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor at resolutions higher than 2,304,000 pixels. You can actually go to their website and find that info. Plus you can have them check your system and they will tell you the software you have that is and isn't compatible. I haven't taken the plunge yet, but I have a techie friend that is in the process now so I am quite curious to see his results.

There's definitely a chance it could screw up your computer. Regardless of what they print on the box or their website here is what you'll need to run it effectively. Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo, Pentium 4 Pentium M, or AMD AthlonXP, Athlon64, Turion64 RAM: 1GB or more Hard Drive. 80GB or more with 15GB free DVD Drive ATI or Nvidia Graphics with 128MB of VRAM, preferably an independant card, but integrated will work as well.
