1 - When walkers try to walk faster, a natural inclination is to lengthen your stride in front, reaching out with your forward foot. This leads to a clumsy, ungainly gait, when you strike hard with the feet. Cure- The power of your walk comes from pushing with the back leg and foot.Instead of long strides, take shorter, quicker steps. 2- Wrong shoes - Too heavy, too stiff, too small, over one year old. cure- walking shoes should be light weight and flexible. 3 - You keep your arms stillat your sides while walking,or swing them without bending them. You notice that your hands swell quite a bit while walking. cure- A walker can add power and speed by using the arms effectively.Bend your arms 90 degrees and swing them naturally back and forth opposite the leg motion. 4 - You are always looking down, staring at your feet. cure- Look up! A good walking posture walking allows you to breath well and provides a long body line..It prevents problems of your back, neckand shoulders.Keep your chin up while walking. It should be parallel to the ground. 5 - You don't drink enough water before, during and after walking. cure- drink a glass of water every hour throught the day to stay hydrated.Drink a glass 10 minutes before your walk.Have another cup or more every 20 minutes while you walk and finally have another glass of water or two after you finish.

Good article. Taking too long of a stride causes us to strike on the heel, which also can lead to shin splints. Landing lighter and more toward the ball of the foot can prevent them.
