Who Causes Racism?

In a society that is increasingly racially tolerant and violent toward any implication of racism, who do you think proliferates this dead concept? Is racism (specifically that against African-Americans) kept alive by hateful Caucasians, or by its historical victims? (Disclaimer: I'm not implying any opinion of mine by asking this, it's simply a matter of what people theorize.)

I believe racism comes in so many colors it's impossible not to be racist these days. There's no perfect environment in which to be raised where you don't conjure up at least a couple irrational prejudices against -any- group of people. Certainly there are still plenty of outspoken racist people in the world, and at the very least they're no longer the public majority but instead a private minority of uneducated rednecks. Okay see now thats my own prejudice acting up, but so far i haven't met a, err, southern born individual, that could prove me wrong on my stereotyping. But even the rest of us who often consider ourselves above the open prejudice of others, are likely to have the occasional racist thought that we immediately get angry at ourselves for thinking. Generally speaking, i think racism is probably as alive as ever.. it's just way quieter then it used to be.

In that I would have to say that it's the parents that perpetrate the continuation of racism. If they are, then in many ways they are teaching their children that, and so on it goes. Yes, the children learn to have multi-cultural friends in school, but they still have that stigma from home that hurts them and sometimes halts them from being able to be completely open with others. Also, when you turn on the news, what's the first thing that's usually a top story? Here in the Twin Cities, it's about what person got shot by this person over in Minneapolis usually. And it's usually got to do with African-Americans, who I've now come to understand call themselves Black Americans, if they're families have been here for many years, like coming from the generation of slaves. On the other side of things, racism towards Caucasians comes from all sides, even if we've done nothing to deserve it, simply because Caucasians have seemed to have it better the majority of the time humans have been around. We have not been nice in the past, but with the way things are changing in society, we're also becoming the minority, and we have to realize that keeping the racism going in any aspect is only going to make us go backwards, not take the right steps forward into the future. Remember, our children in the schools today are going to be the ones running our country when we're old.

You do, Johnny. Talking about it perpetuates its very existence. We must pretend that it does not exist. LoL! I'm pulling your leg, bro.
