I held ny teachers in utmost respect .The teacher-student relationship is not a relationship between friends or even equals. It is a position of trust in which the teacher is in a postion of authority and the student is in the position of being obligated to comply with the legal directives of the adult in loco parentis.I think that a strong argument can be made for the idea that when children use the first name of adults who are in those positions of responsibility, that it sends mixed messages to both student and teacher that there is a relationship between equals thereby making it more difficult (for some) to maintain "professional distance" in the teacher-student relationship.

ya i think you are quite right, but all of us have different comments. i also have utmost respects for my teacher. but at the time when we are students that time we do not have that type of respect, but we realise the teacher's importance in moulding our character after we leave schools. and thats students general mentality. i think all of us would have a good thinking about our teacher but thats after the school days are over at time of schools we are not in the state of mind to realise or to understand the teachers duty or importance in building our carrier. and ya the thing is that "professional distance" that a teacher maintains wid the student, because of this reason a student is unable to understand him/her. if the teacher would maintain a friendly relationship wid a student then it would rather be more simpler for us to learn or i could say that would make our studies more interesting. it would also enhance the teacher-student relationship which means a lot. this could also make some students who feels their studies boring to feel interesting.

i mostly have negative memories about my teacher and i'm not ashamed to admit it. maybe my way of thinking is not correct to many people but i remember most of my teachers as being very mean and biased. i believe that teachers play a most vital and integral part in our growing years and leave an indelible impression on young minds. their neutrality should be above everything else. i distinctly remember having to seat at the backbenches throughout my school-life coz i was way tall than the average girls in my class. how i yearned to sit at the front rows, to answer questions and leave my mark. but it was never to be. another thing which hurt me very much was the way teachers had a habit of concentrating and promoting the bright students and neglecting the lesser bright ones. once a particular student becomes the pet of a teacher, s/he can do no mistake. and then the tight-lipped approach of teachers is of course legendary... as if smiling and chatting with students dilutes their respect. some teachers were definitely exceptional and i still remember and respect them for their positive contribution to my growing years.

I think so too. The teacher knows everything about our lives, personal lives, parents, history etc and we know nothing about them because it is their personal life. That really annoyed me .
