Oh my God, that movie was terrible! And I had such high hopes for it, too. It had a great cast: Donald Sutherland,Luke Perry (Beverly Hills era was on the tide)and yet , for me it was a grave dissapointement. I simply didn't like it at all. The plot, the characters..they all seemed shallow.
As for the show, i really loved it from the first to the last episode and most of the episodes from the spin-off, Angel

I liked the movie when I was younger, probably not now. Never liked the tv show. Here is the latest news on a new spin off:

I like the tv show better. The movie was a bit simplistic and hokey. The movie's star, Kristy Swanson, was recently arrested for getting into an altercation with her boy friend's ex, or about to be ex. There is bad feelings because Kristy met him on Skating with the Stars and he left his wife for her.

I liked the movie. It doesn't completely tie in with the show, for one thing it was much more of a spoof than the show was.
I think my favorite moment in that movie was actually after the credits started to roll. One of the teenagers was being interviewed and describing the vampires, it went something like: "...and they sucked blood, I think they were Young Republicans!"
Anyone know that whole quote? I'd love to have it written down some where.

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. Although from most of the reviews I've heard, most people did'nt like the movie, including Joss Whedon himself. I thought it was a good movie, and have watched it probaly over a dozen times.
But I did enjoy the series alot better of course. The movie was good, but not nearly has good has the series.

The movie was so poor it was hilarious. I don't know if it was actually supposed to be as funny as it was but hey, it was lots of fun!
I don't really think you can compare the two as they're just so different; the mocie is pure comedy whereas the series has a much more serious side to it but still has a lot of humour.

The movie was pretty great! It was really amusing if nothing else and i think it was a great starting point for the TV show. The movie is very similar in style to The Lost Boys. Very obvious about everything if you get my meaning. I love the TV show, it's more refined and subtle and you really get involved with the characters.

I agree with some of the other posters. To me, the series and the movie were different. I liked the series better but the movie was funny in a campy way and I enjoyed watching it. But... as a avid watcher of the series, I enjoyed it better.

The TV series was very very good! the movie was a bit too corny! and i think Sarah Michelle Gellar did a better job of playing Buffy than Kristy Swanson!
Btw where are both the ladies nowadays? any news regarding either one of them?

I do, though barely. I don't think the actress who played Buffy is quite as memorable as Sarah Michelle. For me, she's the best Buffy--Ever. I love the TV show because it has better action scenes and of course, the story line is better since the writers don't have to worry about two hours limit like the movie.

aaaaah, buffy the vampire slayer: the movie. i remember that... i ditched school just to watch that. i remember it being ok, with the only part i found funny being where the one armed vampire gets killed near the end. soooo i guess it wasn't really that great... but any movie (then) with kristy swanson was fiiiiiine by me. it's weird to think that josh wheadon wrote that. right now he's one of my favorite writers, but then... i tried watching the movie again... emphasis on "tried". really really bad. i wish though that they would have been able to make the next movie like the rumor mill said years back. that would have been a thing to see. but i guess with the new comic book and all that might not be possible at the moment.

when I think of the movie I do not tie it in with the tv show... I thought the movie was funny but if I think of them as the same thing then the movie will come out lacking

yes i remember the movie and have it in my collection. i loved it, it was corny but good, i think the dying scene at the very end is the funniest, i cant remember his name but buffy and someone else are talking and the vampire is dying in the background for what seems ages, very very funny.
