When you ask someone what their favorite Naruto character is, their answer will likely be Sasuke or Gaara of the Desert. But I think that the best Naruto character there is is Rock Lee, master of Taijutsu, and the only ninja that could touch Gaara.
Lee received a career- ending injury in the battle against Gaara, and his fighting days are no more. But Lee was a master of Taijutsu, capable of moving faster than any human eye can follow, and unleashing he hidden jutsu on an assailant. Lee got to where he was through blood and sweat, not from some kekei genkai or prestigious family. Lee knows no Genjutsu or Ninjutsu, but he has never needed any.
Is Lee worthy of praise? I think so. He is always willing to defend a loved one, no matter what the cost.

you're different from others huh?! it's very seldom that rock lee is picked being as their favorite character in naruto. but i don't like sasuke. i like gaara more than sasuke. But of course my favorite is naruto.. even though he's the only one who didn't passed the chunin exam, still he has the abilty to be one. you said here that you like lee because he's capable of moving faster than any human can follow. but you know what is dangerous about yondaime? it's his insane speed, that can transport him to any place he wants, it's because of his body flicker jutsu (shunshin no jutsu). he is called as yellow flash of konoha and can be used over long distances as long as he knows exactly where he is going. another jutsu that yondaime uses involves special kunais. these kunais are made so wherever they are throw, yondaime can teleport to its location.. though i never see him in action before, i really like him too.

Yeah, it's so seldom that you find a Lee fan, it's sad.
But, I saw the light. And now I know that Lee is by far the most powerful ninja, with the best story behind him.

Yeah. Very rare we heard someone adore Rock Lee. But like what u said, Rock Lee possess something more than what others have.. similar to Naruto.. the determination. That is why he is the Genius of Work Hard.... only with Taijutsu, he become the Shinobi. And he never give up.. and he is very lucky to have Gai Sensei that care and love him.
Luv Rock Lee.

What I love is that he wasn't born with talent, like Sasuke or Gaara. He got there on his own, with blood, sweat, and tears. I'm a martial artist myself, and I don't have much natural talent. I'm normally the smart one who backs out of a fight and works with computers for the team, but I've worked hard and I'm getting better.

Rock Lee is not one of the best or famous shinobi in Konoha but as you have said, he has determination.
Determination keeps you going and it keeps you on trying hard. Will power and eagerness to keep up with other people's strength is not easy. I agree that he's a genius of "hard work."
If you can remember the episode when the first time he unleashes his gates, where when he opened his first gate, the second one up to the third gate, his speed increased exponentially? That was the time when he was fighting Gaara, his mentor told Kakashi that he was a genius with that kind of power.
He's getting stronger, if you will read the Manga for Naruto. You will see that he's really strong because he beat one of the Akatsuki's member. Gaara didnt stand or able to beat one of them but Rock Lee did!

I'm actually really happy to see this discussion because I love Rock Lee too. I think he has a really noble spirit and you gotta be impressed by how devoted he was to protecting those he cares about as well as just becoming the best ninja that he could be, regardless of his inabilities to preform other jutsus. I also love how he doesn't use contractions in the english dub. It makes him very formal sounding and even a little socially awkward.
I'm not that far in the anime myself, but I'm hoping they will find a way so that he can fight again. He is just too great of a character to be left behind.

Exactly! Like Naruto, it's his drive and dedication that win you over in the end. I also like how honor is important to him as well.
What a fun character to see yourself in! Now I'm going to have to think if any of the Naruto characters are like me. ^_^

Rock Lee is like a caricature of me, and that's why I love him. He's socially awkward, can't seem to do anything right just because he wasn't born with talent. However, he works hard and gets past that. What he lacks in talent, he more than makes up for in drive.

Well there's not doubt Rock Lee worth praising, however, my favorite characters are Sasuke and Naruto:
Naruto - I think that he works even harder than rock lee. although he has an advanced bloodline (the strongest of all) he has no ninja skills AND during the academy period was the worst ninja in class. Not only he managed to overcome many difficulties, he became (I think) the strongest chounin and he has the greatest potential.
Sasuke - well he is the coolest character and mostly I like him because of his sharingan and because he hates his brother so much. His goal (to revenge Itachi) pushes him to be stronger and he is also similar to Kakashi which is also a ninja I like.

Actually, last time I checked, Naruto has no special bloodline trait, or kekei genkai. I remember the first time Sasuke fought Naruto. After he got spanked, Naruto said,
"See those scars on his hands? I bet he's been training all day and night, mastering his jutsu, working harder than any of us."

Thats the encouraging factor about Rock Lee.
He never give up, just like Naruto who hates to give up! The never say die attitude!
The episodes where Rock Lee was struggling because of the injury he got from his fight against Gaara inspired me a lot. It changed my way of thinking and gave a positive attitude about facing difficulties in life. There are more people who are less fortunate than me, I should do better than stopping because of some problem. I should face them and do something to make my life better.
Rock Lee Rocks!

I like Rock Lee, but I have to say I like Gai Sansei better. Something about his cheeziness and his love for justice enticed me a little. He acts kind of goofy sometimes but as far as all of the sensei goes I think he's got to be one of the strongest of them all. Rock Lee seems to be a great pupil of Gai and I think it only proves that talent is not always needed to achieve success. Rock Lee is a very classic example of success without talent.
