Are you one of those people who uses a lot of gestures and animated expressions to colour what you are saying? I do, and I think it livens up any discussion.
I have noticed my children have also picked up the habit, and when we are speaking amongst ourselves the hands are flying everywhere!
Do you 'talk' with your hands? Is it a family trait?

Yes I do , my hubby laughs at me because I do it even when I am on the telephone , I talk a lot lol but I don't know if I could talk as much if I didn't have my hands to use too , I better not tell my hubby that though as he might tie my hands together to get some peace and quiet lol xx

I always get such a laugh when I see a car full of people travelling together on the motorway, with hands flying everywhere. They always look so jolly!

It is a learned responce. The latin cultures are more animated in their hand guestures than, say, Germanic cultures. I grew up in an English/Germanic up bringing & I use very few gestures. Not to say I used none. I've become more expressive since I worked with a couple of deaf people, but I have to remember not use them with my blind friends....

I am inlined to use my hands just a little bit when I am talking. I can't stand to talk to anybody whose hands go all over the place when they are talking and I find myself ducking in case the hit me with them. I have a brother who does this and I am always afraid he will give me a belt in the face when he is talking.

This is a huge joke about me with my family and friends. I've had some people tell me that they like talking to me because I'm almost animated like a cartoon. They said when I'm talking about something funny it's actually like watching a cartoon. I don't know where I got that from. I guess my mom does it when she's really trying to get her point across or is really upset. I don't think my dad is a big hand type talker though and neither is my brother. I just happened to get that trait though and am not sure why.

oh...Italians are known to use hands while talking and our gesture is famous all over the world...I have never paid much attention to me while talking...at the moment I don't know what to answer but I think that yes, I like adding something to my words with face expressions or body or even hands....I am paying more attention to me while speaking next time...anyway sure I cannot stay completely still unless I am making a professional speech at a congress or at University...

Yes, I do talk with my hands. ha ha
I don't know if it is a family trait. I guess it is so natural to me that I just don't really notice it. But my partner notices it and sometimes will grab my hands to keep me still. ha ha
I know my kids are very expressive with their face and body stature...but that would also be something that they got from me and not their dad. LOL

Yes. i do talk with my hands. i always did and i am still doing that. i do not think it runs in the family, i know that my father talks with his hands too, but my mother and my brother do not. i know that almost every person i know comments my 'speaking hands', they think it is not acceptable. My mother things it is not polite, and so do a lot of people in my country, when i was little she tried to stop me from doing that, but it did not work. LOl.
I really do not understand what they are speaking about, and i do tell people that have a problem with the fact that i do talk with my hands, that they have to solve their own problem.

It depends. When I want to, I will bring on the gestures. But sometimes, I am just plain lazy. I can mesmerize the listener enough with just my voice alone. LOL ^^
