What's your eating habit?

I recently posted a thread about my habit of being a tidy bunny. My house, as you all well know by now, is scrupulously clean. Same goes with my eating habit. Whenever, I'm eating, my plate is clean. You will not see anything on the table. Not one single rice grain or food on the floor. I happened to know a few people eating like they were always running out of time. They will eat noisily. Their plate is dirty, the table on the side of their plate is a mess and there will be lots of food spilling on the floor. I can understand if its a 6, 8 or 10 years old child eating that way. But for an adult, I think they should know how to eat properly. This is only my opinion. I don't believe in the saying that if your house is a mess, then you're also a messy eater. My brother is a perfect example in this case. Every part of his house is positively out of order, but he knows his manner whenever its eating time. I like to know if you're a tidy or a messy eater? What do you think of those people who are eating noisily and a total mess? Should they know that proper etiquette should be observed while eating? Do share your thoughts.

I am not a bunny, hence I do not know how a bunny eats, but I certainly do not eat like a chicken :p As I am more proficient in using fork and spoon while eating, it is inevitable that there will be some noise from the cutlery hitting the plate. My plate is in a mess only when I am eating curry where my tongue just refused to lick the plate. I have the habit of polishing my plate clean except for the little corner where I leave some valuables to be buried later on. When I am done, the fork and spoon will also be neatly placed.

I don't think you know how to eat properly, bighead. It seems that all your food are going up to your head rather than to that thin body. Best be careful there. It might burst any second now. "grin"

I am definitely a tidy eater. I have to have everything just so. My husband laughs at me because I always have to have a napkin under my glass. I just don't like water beading up all over the table. I really do not like to hear anyone smacking their lips when eating. I know, picky picky, but it does drive me bonkers! In restaurants, I have a hard time leaving without stacking the dishes on the table and wiping it with a napkin.

hi friend,it is a nice post.for me,i think that ,we should regard proper etiquette when having dinner in some important date, such as with the clients, our header and the like.then if so ,we can not eat somethings noisily or mess.but at home ,with our family,we can not pay much attention to our eating habit.we can eat freehanded.right?

I can not stand messy, noisy eaters. I also can't stand having or being in a house that is unorganized, messy, and dirty. I admit I am a neat freak, and I have good table manners. I don't get food everywhere and I don't wear it either lol.

Well, I try to be tidy, sometimes I am just clumsy though and I will spill food down me. I do try though, and I don't eat fast, I like to enjoy my food and taste it. My husband on the other hand eats like he is afraid someone is going to take it away from him. He shovels in mouth full after mouth full and makes a mess in the process. I think he eats like that because he grew up with three brothers, all a year apart. He was the second born, but due to health problems he was the smallest, so he had to learn to get his food quick and eat it fast before one of his brothers beat him to it.

Eating habit really have something to do with where we're coming from. I can understand why your husband eats like that. :)

I like my house and my table to be clinically clean and I can't stand either of them to be messey. I eat small dainty morsels and I am a very slow eater. I am usually last to finish and I often stop eating because I don't like being the only person left eating. I too have seen a few people who just attack their food as though it was going to get away from them. I like to have a nice clean tablecloth on my table during mealtimes and when my children were small I would place lost of serviettes at their setting in case the cloth would be spoiled. When any of my grandchildren make noise while they are eating, I usually ask if the food tastes nice to which they will reply "why". I then say "because it sounds awful"...lol.

LOL, my girls also like to talk while eating. I was at my wit's end reminding them not to talk while eating. I need to use that technique you are using with your grandchildren. Another good advice. Thanks, alexandria.

You are so right. My house is a mess and I'm a very messy eater. I just throw all the food in my mouth like someone is about to take it all away from me. Then there are crumbs or pieces of rice on the place mat and I usually forget to chew my food...

I am a very slow eater, so usually I make no mess. My husband, though, comes home ravenously hungry and can tear through 3 platefuls by the time I'm through eating my first! He makes a MESS! Lol. I don't let it bother me, sometimes I just gently remind him that he should slow down. I will probably make more of an issue out of it as we are about to have a baby any day now and I don't want my son growing up with bad eating habits because he imitates his father! I have mentioned to my husband that once we have a child, it becomes his job to be mindful and set a good example... which means changing his eating habits!

I make a mess sometimes. I'm a clumsy person, even when I eat slowly I'll most probably mess something. I think food seems to come alive and try to run away. It's not 100% of the time but just about 89%, and that's quite a bit I guess. I'm a bit clumsy, I think walls sometimes appear out of nowhere to bump me or my feet fight with each other and I trip lol. I had some weird experiences I can't explain till this day. One day I was in a hurry for something but can't recall what and well I'm embarrassed to say I forgot to open the door, lol, I ran right into a metal and glass door. My mom was laughing and worried at the same time, I can't remember why it happened but I can remember that it happened!

I'm a very tidy eater, and like you, you will not find a single grain of rice on the plate, or table around where I've been eating when I'm done. I can't stand that lol. My partner is a messy eater to a certain extent. He doesn't drop food off the plate or eat noisily, but his plate is always dirty when he's done and I usually have to scrape scraps into the garbage before doing dishes. I don't mind those who leave messy plates. But when they eat noisily, as in smacking their lips and chewing with their mouth open, and spilling food everywhere, it annoys me, and I have to literally bite my tongue sometimes. My kids are messy eaters, but I do feel thats to be expected. As they get older, they'll get better.

I do the same thing too. After eating, I need to scrub the floor a little because my girls have a hole in their mouth or something, LOL! They tend to spill their food on the floor and even on the chair. :)

LOL, I am a tidy eater. Check out my latest thread. I have been brought up to be a good kiddo who will finish everything on his plate. And yes, I do know the fine art of dining. Where to put your fork and knife, etc. In fact, I practise them at less fanciful places out of home too. People who observe me must think me strange. :P

Oh that so annoys me. My husband and boys make such a mess. It drives me batty. I spend all of dinner saying "look beside your plate" I hate to eat things like fried chicken and ribs with my hands because I hate to get messy. I feel that manners should be in place wherever you go, even the dinner table. Especially if you are at a restaurant. SO in short, I am a very anal retentive tidy eater...lol.

I'm tidy when I eat. I know my table manners. However, there may be times when a grain or two of rice may accidentally fall, but I make sure I pick them up immediately. I'm not the best housekeeper on the floor though. Regarding people with bad table manners, I generally just don't look at them. Sometimes they are not aware of the etiquettes that should generally be followed. What I can't stand are people who waste food. They pile up a lot of food on their plate and then they don't eat everything. Such a waste.

good post charms. unlike keeping home clean, i feel eating food is really an art. i myself take my own time to eat and finish each dish served enjoying bit of it. afterall all the exercise day in and day out is to for the stomach. and so i believe eating at ease is must. and i do like talking with my family all the while guiding them the way eating without messing up. my colleagues at office while at lunch have that untidy and hasty way of gulping down the food down their throats attending to intercom and worried about their work. just junky kind of people i hate i tell them to enjoy their lunch with cool mind but no way. they are as they are.

You are eating for yourselves. Not for others. So its not necesary to look for others reaction while you eat. You can eat in the way it feels comfortable to you. But we have to make it a point that we dont cause more amount of discomfortness to our onlookers.

As for me I am not a voracious eater .. I eat to live and live to eat. the food that i get on my table : it must be very clean ,hot and worthy of devouring. belly full of junk food is that I desire ..but a sumptuous one in needed quantity/.
