Pushy salesman

I recently (approximately 2 weeks ago) purchased a new car. My husband and I bought a Ford Escort Limited from Ford Dealmaker. Although I love the car, I could have done without all of the pushy salesman. I understand that this is a low time of year for them, but we had THREE salesman on top of us the entire time we were there. The whole process took us about three hours, and not once did we have a chance to talk alone. Yes, I know - that is their job. However, it turned me off from the whole process. I was nervous and shaking the whole time. It was extremely irritating. It was my first big purchase and I was nervous to begin with anyway. However, they barely let me get a word in edgewise, and they rushed everything right along. I got a great deal for a great car, so I ended up buying it, but I don't think I'll go back for my next car.
I've though about it a lot since then. How do you handle pushy salesman? I even told them to back off several times, which they complied for all of about 3 minutes. How far is too far?

yes, that gets me too. this one tried it with me and my hubbie in 05 when he got back from Iraq and after awhile we told him we would come back. later that day we went back and thank heavens he has gone. he was just after the commision and not look out for what we wanted. we got a better deal and payed 4000 less for it. sometimes they are so rude
