I did it! I did it! I did it!

If you are a mom or grandma you may be familiar with DORA. THE EXPLORER. My 2 yr old grandson loves her....so every time I accomplish something I feel like singing "I did it". This morning I put together the toddler bed and took apart the crib (which I also put together). I did get my hubby to pick it up from his brothers and bring it in the house, but I don't know how long it would have sat upstairs so I decided today was the day. If I ask him to do something more than once I am nagging :-( Does anyone else have to take care of things yourself or do you have a handy husband? I admire those who can do and can't stand those who say "I can't" and refuse to try.

I've become a "can-do" because I don't have someone that's very handy or motivated. It's not that I was a "can't do" before, it's just that there were seriously a lot of things I didn't know how to do. I was always willing to try but always with the attitude that "I shouldn't be doing this because I might mess up". I've gotten over that and learned a lot and realized that there is very little than can be messed up permanently. It's gotten to be the other way around for us. HE'S the one that's scared to try anything new or learn a new skill. We're possibly buying a house. It currently has ONE kitchen cabinet. I said that wouldn't be nearly enough and we'd have to build some more. He looked around Kmart for a prebuilt something that would work and upon not finding anything decided maybe we shouldn't buy the place after all because HE doesn't know anything about building cabinets. I said "they're boxes with doors, how hard can it be?!" I just don't see the logic in not getting the place just because HE doesn't know how to build cabinets. I don't KNOW how either but I'm sure I could figure it out.
And, kids songs are great! There's one for every little event in life whether you're little or big. (I do have to go to a huge effort to not embarrass my older children while backpack shopping..."Back pack, back pack, loaded up with lots of things and knicknacks too...", it's just too irresistible sometimes!)

Exactly, the only way to learn new things is to try and learn. No one is born with knowledge about everything they might need to tackle in life. I know I might not be able to do something perfectly but I'm not afraid to try anyway. I watch the DIY shows, pick up tips here and there and am fairly confident that I can figure these things out.
I think "Daddy" should watch Dora and Diego a little more often!

I like your attitude. I have always thought "the other guy wasn't oorn knowing how to do that, and if he can learn, so can I". there are so many home imporvemnt shows, books, and tapes you can read/watch that there is no reason not to tackle a project yourself. My hubby is the same way, he won't attempt it b/c he doesn't know how. I guess I get the "I can fix it or at least try" attitude from my mother. Yeah, aren't DORA & DIEGO great kids programs????

Congratulations to you!!! Those little kids songs are so easy to use when we have feelings of accomplishments. I sing Mr. Roger's song quite often.
I had a coach in high school that told us "Can't" isn't a word. IF she ever heard us say the word, we would have to run laps-- LOTS of laps!! That grass track never looked so big as when I said Can't! She also told we never Have to do anything... We GET to do it!! "Guess what?? You GET to run laps!" I've been out of HS for almost 20 years, and still cower at the word Can't! LOL!
