I'm helping head the Work-Life Balance initiative at my organization right now and we've been wondering what motivates us to work better and more efficiently aside from rewards and recognitions.
Personally, I get motivated by knowing that each new day I'm learning something new, as well as passing on the knowledge I already have to those much newer to the company than myself. This is why idle time is really bad for someone like me. When I'm busy, then I'm happy.
What about you? What motivates you to do your best at work or school?

I am motivated when the work that I provide is productive and not because the boss says I did a good job because I can see it bringing rewards -
I am motivated when I do what I know well and enjoy it; like you, I simply hate when I am idle, I feel like I am wasting time, money and my life...dramatic, eh??:)
