What motivates you at work/school?

I'm helping head the Work-Life Balance initiative at my organization right now and we've been wondering what motivates us to work better and more efficiently aside from rewards and recognitions. Personally, I get motivated by knowing that each new day I'm learning something new, as well as passing on the knowledge I already have to those much newer to the company than myself. This is why idle time is really bad for someone like me. When I'm busy, then I'm happy. What about you? What motivates you to do your best at work or school?

I am motivated when the work that I provide is productive and not because the boss says I did a good job because I can see it bringing rewards - I am motivated when I do what I know well and enjoy it; like you, I simply hate when I am idle, I feel like I am wasting time, money and my life...dramatic, eh??:)

I quit my previous job because I spent too much time doing nothing and wondering if there were better opportunities elsewhere. If they'd kept me busy, I wouldn't have had the time to edit my resume and go on interviews. Hehehe.

It's a great motivator, but if the work environment really sucks, I think a lot of people would be willing to forego a larger salary for a smaller one.

The love and sharing attitute in people is what motivtes me. I like it when people accepy you the way you are and d not judge you for your colour or religion.
