if anyone has had this or has this can you tell me how soon you have to be in the hospital for your antibotic. and do the docs or midwives still strep the membranes and check to see how far you are. i have been reading about it and some are saying that as long as you don't have cervical exams or stripping of the membranes the baby will not be affected by this. i want them too so i know what is going on with the dilation, and stripping of the membranes helped me go into labor with my son before. but i don't want to put the baby at risk. can anyone help me with this. thank you.

For me I have had group B positive with each of my pregnancies. I didnt get an antibiotic until I was in labor, then it was administered through an IV. That is what has always been recommended to me, as I was told it was safer for the baby. I have only had my membranes stripped one of the times. I am sure I will be group B pos again this time, and I'll just get the IV as long as they recommend it to me.

yeah that is what they told me about the iv and all. but i don't know if i have to get there as soon as i start feeling them. cause i have two other kids i have to get to my sisters to watch them then go to the hospital. i'm afraid that i won't get there on time to get the IV. i go to the doc's tomorrow and i know that i'm still early but i want them to check to see if anything effacing is happening cause i feel alot of pressure today but don't know if they will.

Don't panic about how quickly you get to the hospital in labor. Although group B is a serious infection, it's a very small percentage of babies who pick it up- even when mom doesn't have antibiotics. I can look for some studies for you if you'd like & post them later. And as long as your membranes are intact, they are protecting your baby.I am also group B+. With my second child, my water didn't break until just as she was crowning. I didn't need or have antibiotics. Of course many women's membranes break long before that point, and IV antibiotics will be given in those cases

I'm not really sure about how the membrane stripping will affect your GBS and the baby. I never had mine stripped so I never had to worry about it. I also had GBS when I was pregnant. It scared the crap out of me when I found out I had it and came home and started doing research on it. I talked to one of my friends who is a nurse in a neonatal nursery. She told me it was extremely common and as long as I got the antibiotics while I was in labor everything would be fine. When I went into labor I didn't realize I was really in labor until my contractions got really bad. My labor went really fast and by the time I got to the birth center I was already dialated to 7cm. I only had time for 1 round of the antibiotics. My daughter came out just fine and wasn't affected at all. It's really not a big deal as long as you get your antibiotics. I would talk to your doctor about the membrane stripping though. I'm really not sure about that. Good luck on your upcoming delivery!
