Would you prosecute a family member?

If a member of your family stole your debit card and went on a shopping spree , Overdrawing it by $400.00 what would you do? Is it morally correct to press charges against this criminal? They had no permission and no right to put you in this predictament. Would you care about how the rest of the family would view you?

I usually tend to march to the beat of my own drummer, try to do as I truly believe is right, and to heck with anyone who thinks less of me for it including family. It's hard for me to say if I would press charges on this person if they did it for something truly desperate but if they just used it to shop for themselves or something? You bet! I'd report them in a heartbeat and if my family thought less of me for doing so then they're the kind of people I don't want in my life anyway.

Its like they don't care about the finacial burden they brought about. They have the worse "get over it" attitude. Yeah I think charges should be pressed!!!

Thank you. You are right! it is posible to love your family members from a distance. That's what I will have to do in this case.

Hi Kynni204, Yes, I would press charges! It would not matter if it were my son, daughter, brother, or sister. This type of behavior cannot be swept under the rug. If the thief had no qualms about stealing from you --a relative, surely he or she would more easily steal from a stranger. Unless you'd like to see this reprehensible behavior expand, you really need to stand strong and do the right thing, which is to take the heat for teaching the thief that stealing is wrong.

I wouldn't be able to afford to just lose 400 dollars . It would make it hard as it is a family member who has done this and will cause problems in the family if you do take action but the crime should not go unpunished as the person who did this will feel that they can get away with it again and to someone else in the family and then someone will come back on you for this because you didn't do something when you had the chance to prevent it from happening to you . This is a no win situation so you will have to go on your best instincts on what you should do as you know your family better then anyone and know what would be right for you . Either way , what you decide is your choice and no one should put you down for what you decide to do as it was your money and you did not give permission for this money to be spent on something that is virtually useless to you . Best of luck in whatever you decide !!

I think it would only be right to press charges against them. If they get away with it then they will do it again. I managed a motel that was robbed and we put the tape on crime stoppers and a mother called in to say it was her son. When I went to the court hearing with my employee you could tell which of the two boys was the one where the mother called in. The first boy came out. His family was actually behind me and he waved and laughed. His mom and other sibblings were there and they too were laughing and giggling during the whole thing. The boy had no clue what he did was wrong and he was in big trouble. The second boy came out and he didn't even look at who was there. He used yes Sir and no Sir to the Judge. He sat up straight in his chair. I watched his mother and his sibblings sitting there and the thoughts that ran through my head was first that he was praying the judge would keep him cause he didn't want to face his mom and two that she taught her children that if they do wrong they will be punished. I have to say I was so very proud of that mother because I am sure it was a hard choice for her. I am betting though he and his sibblings will not be doing anything stupid like that again.

Yes if you don't press charges I think they will continue doing it assuming they will always get away with it. That's a shame and sad his family was waving and laughing. That's the boy who will stay in and out of "the slammer"

Oh no I wouldn't press charges against them, no no no... I'd keep it ALL in the family. first of all I'd prolly beat the living health outta them, then I'd find really interesting ways of making them pay me back for the money... such as public humilation for example... There are alot worse ways of getting back at someone then having them go to jail for abit...

I know this may sound mean and rude, but I'd press charges. They should know better than to do that.

I don't think I would because I believe in not turning back on family.

This is a good question. A hard question to answer to. It would be hard for me to do it but their is a chance I might press charges. They need to learn not to steal. If I let this go then what else woulkd they try and do to me. But I never really know until I'm faced with something like this. First thing I hope I would do is pray before taking action.
