Would you quit a job without having another one lined up?

I've been a preschool teacher on and off for 20 years. I love kids but I've lost my patience with teaching. I'm thinking of saying goodbye to teaching and start another career. The thing is, I haven't even started looking for a job yet. Should I put my two weeks in or wait until I find another job? What do you think?

if you started as a teacher, and you wanted to change careers, does that mean you have to go to school again? if you really wanted to,i guess it would be worth it to start studying in a different field. you could just quit your job without having another job lined up unless you won't be able to support yourself otherwise

darkzzt,To be a preschool teacher, you don't need a degree. It does help your reputation though. You go through a lot of inservice trainings. I have vacation pay coming to me, so that would last me for a while.

delina123, I have done it before but that was several years ago. Times are different now.

I am a single mother so the answer to that question for me is a big NO! That doesn't mean your situation is the same as mine though. I am confident I would be able to find another job if I were to look but I would be too scared to quit with no income coming in before I knew I had another job. You may different. You may have saved money or be married and able to do this. If that was the case for me I might consider it.

jchampany, I'm single to but no kids! There are a lot of jobs in the area. I would work as a waitress if I had too. You know, just until something else came along.

I think you must be my kindred spirit. I too have been teaching nursery school aged children on and off now for sixteen years. I am also very tired and not at all as patient with them as I used to be. I am definitely not returning to this job once the school year ends. I have nothing else lined up, but that's okay with me. I will take the summer to decide which direction I will go, but it won't be teaching the little ones any more.

wachit14, I'm glad someone else knows how I am feeling. Someone suggested maybe older kids? But I don't think I have the patience for them either. It's sad, I know. I need to move on.
