Even though I really don't patronize soap dramas here in our own country.. pearl1003 has her point on remakes. Aside from providing the same story in another way to cater to non-english soap drama watching filipinos and raising the rating for the networks, there is another angle that I've learned during college on why certain things are remade even though they originally came from other sources. Its not always about who had it first which should be granted more credit and shun those who attempted to recreate the same thing in their own rendition. It can also be considered as one's way of revolt from partonizing what seems to be considered as 'imported' from other countries. Patriotism - Let's be honest, when we hear 'locally made' we automatically have assumptions that the quality is compromised and we'd often have the idea that its fake and another more better item had already been produced which this locally made item was copied from. I too happen to still have that conceptual thinking. Never the less, that's often the case. Then again, there are items that were locally made and then improved by other foreign companies and they get more credit from that than the actual item which was locally made originaly. Then there is also misplaced patriotism. But that's with tangible items, lets go with what your discussions which is inclined with. Story Originality - You think that "Sana'y Maulit Muli" copied that story line of "If Only" though it really did. There are a large number of stories that came from other stories, known or not. And such sources also came from other sources. But all of those came from collective human experiences. So to be blunt, everything is 'pirated' and the only original would be every person's expereince with various degrees. In the end, its still one's own choice and preference on considering what they like, be it the original or the rendered copy. Anyway, like you with 'Madrasta,' I haven't watched either 'Sana'y Maulit Muli' or 'If Only' so I wouldn't know

I get your point.. Filipino's are very creative and can come up with a stories with their own ideas and thoughts. and it'll be more appreciated if they'll make a soap opera of their own , and not just a remake. and sometimes, they make it worst and can't even give a justice to it.

I agree...I've seen that movie too and I can say that its not only "If Only" they copied but also korean movie too, like "Il Mare"... That's why I'm not into teleserye or filipino drama/series because most of their dramas is copied from other countries especially in asian countries.

I'm so sick of watching soap operas here in the Philippines. They have NO originality when it comes to storyline. Tv stations like GMA and ABS CBN should think of new and better ideas in making tv programs...stop making fantaserye DUH!!! =)

NO, i think you got it all wrong. Sana maulit muli is really a copy of If Only. I think ABSCBN is trying to make a pinoy version of that hollywood film. They are focusing on the pinoys who have no taste for english movies. Or they are really making a copy in tagalog so pinoys will understand it. You have to consider the "MASA" and most of them fancy watching tagalog films than english ones. And they are also thinking about TV ratings. If Only is a nice film and that is why they that made a pinoy version of it. Madrasta, is the pinoy version of Stepmom. Don't tell me you hated Madrasta too? There are a lot of re-makes now. Most teleserye's are either making pinoy versions of english films or making pinoy movies into teleseryes.

what do you mean I got it all wrong? well, base on what I've said, they copied the "if only" movie. lots of TV shows now are the remakes of some movies or Teleserye in the other country. I haven't watch madrasta.. so I wouldn't know.
