Japan and Car washes

I am doing a project for my international marketing project. We are to choose a product in the soap and cleaning compound industry or the office supply industry. My group chose the soap and cleaning compound industry. One of the members in my group is from Japan and he was saying that there are really no self services car washes in Japan, just the drive through automatic kind and they were expensive. I was wondering if anyone here is from japan and can tell me more about the market and how people wash there cars and if people in japan ever wash there cars by hand?
